Starting Characters / Dual Class Question
Singing the war chant outside battle doesn't change the game difficulty, it's only a comfortable way to heal your party without having to go back to a safe resting place.
The extra XP you get for changing the difficulty will affect the game balance on the other hand, you'll have spells and other options available before you're supposed to.

Thanks for the advice. I'll reduce the difficulty setting before I affect the game too much. (Particularly as I am finding it hard on the current setting. My Fighter/Druid and Fighter/Conjurer are now dualled. I have now have Conlan's Hammer which will tell you how far I have progressed. I must admit that before going to meet the Cold Wights, I went to sleep where the Yetis turn up regularly, just to go up a level. (My fighter/Druid and Fighter/Conjurer were both less than 1000ep away from levelling up. After buying the sling and the Helm of the Defender, I now have a cash balance of about 20gp. I have only bought identify as far as spells are concerned, so it looks as if finance will be a bit of a problem. Better than BG though where there is a superabundance of cash.

I don't mind difficult. That's one reason why I have switched for a while from BG which I know so well that I usually play "no reloads". I am beginning to discover the weaknesses of the monsters. e.g. Agannazers scorcher is amazing against Cold Wights. No doubt when I have played the game a few times, it will become as easy as BG. I think therefore that I will stay on the normal setting even though I know that it will delay my dual classed characters regaining their old skills.

Now that would be cheating.
I have one set of elven chainmail which I bought. Unfortunately didn't find any others.
Worse, from Kaylessa I got a ring to be used by rangers, not the items that would have been useful for my party.
Still, I am progressing nicely through Dorn's deep. I am just about to take on the undead.

You can't buy elven chainmail in IWD, you can only find it if you're lucky.
Make sure you've at least 20 cha when buying stuff and sell your stuff to the merchants who pay the most, like Orrick or the trader in the Severed Hand if you want to have more money, but you'll get enough money soon enough and you don't have to buy and carry around expensive stuff.

I'm pretty sure that I bought it. Could it be part of the item upgrade mod?
Anyway, I am now facing the lich and have picked up a lot of weapons and swords, some of which are superfluous to requirements. I have swords that burn which are useful against trolls etc., one which casts a fireball, not quite so useful as everybody gets hurt.
I'm not having too many problems and if I was, I could go experience mining with those Ettins.
