multi-attack monk bug

Post by Bawookles »

Hey, all.

So I've got a 6th level monk who has two attacks right now but I have a weird bug problem with it. He's using a crossbow for ranged attacks and when I switch to the crossbow and then switch back to either his fist or his +1 mace it only gives him one attack. If I take the crossbow out of his four weapon slots, he gets his 2 attacks back again, but if I switch back to crossbow and then back to fist, boing, just 1 attack again.

This isn't happening with my fighters who have 2 attacks when they switch to their crossbows and back again. Is this just some dumb monk bug in the game? Anyway around it or solutions? Having to go into his inventory screen and putting his crossbow away into his backpack every time he wants to switch to close combat is gonna be annoying.

Just don't use crossbows. They don't allow a strength bonus and even a level 30 fighter doesn't get more than 1 attack per round using one. A level 8 monk with the rapid shot feat gets 3 attacks per round with any other ranged weapon.

Monks get an extra unarmed attack when they reach 4 BAB which is at level 6. But only unarmed. Regular weapons they do NOT get an extra attack at 4 BAB. Also as kmonster says, crossbows are limited to one attack.

Also I believe monks are bugged so they lose their extra unarmed attacks if they multiclass.

Okay, thanks for the advice but that still doesn't apply to the bug I'm seeing. If I switch from a ranged weapon back to his fist, I'm only seeing one attack for his fist, I have to take the range weapon out of his weapon slots in order for him to get his multiple attack with his fist. It's an annoying bug.

Did you test if it's a display or gameplay bug ?

Wow, I have no way of knowing. Is there an easy way to test that?

Another question:

Does it only happen with monks? Or what happens when a fighter 6+ has a xbow in one of their slots?

I'm guessing its a monk thing because I never noticed it when I played. (never played monks)

Just have your monk and a party member with 1 attack/round attack each other or something else. If the monk attacks twice as often, he has 2 attacks per round. You might have to enable the feedback to see when they do their attack rolls.

yeah, it only happens with my monk.

Okay, after fooling around with it, it does appear to be a display bug rather than a gameplay bug. With the game paused, when I shift back to fist it displays only one attack but after one round if I were to look at it again it shows the multi-attack in the display.

Sorry for the false alarm as it were and thanks for the help!
