I would like to get some opinions on the SSI Buck Rogers games (Countdown to Doomsday and Matrix Cubed).
According to the reviews I read, they're supposed to be really good, but I'm still not sure about them. My first impression is that they look like silly propaganda.
Thanks in advance!

I played to completion about two thirds of the Gold Box games, starting with Pool of Radiance.
I would recommend the two Buck Rogers games against my favourites of the fantasy settling gold boxes, which would be Death Knights of Kyrnn & Pools of Darkness.
Some of the things I like very much about the Buck Rogers games:
Compared to other gold box games and games of this era, there are a large number of character skills that can be developed
Since in the early part of the game money is needed, it is possible to play as a sort of crusading pirate by attacking and capturing enemy ships and salvaging their equipment
It is also possible to capture and commandeer other space-faring vessels, thus acquiring a more powerful ship than that which you start with
I'd say the first game is a little more enjoyable than the second, partly because from the beginning of the second game there is fairly easy access to the most powerful weapons from the first, and therefore little to experience in the way of progression from the weaponry dimension.
If I be given the power to invoke a modern remake of an old SSI game, it would be Buck Rogers.
Thanks for the post, Lykurgos, and welcome to GameBanshee.
I have decided to give them a try. I already bought Countdown to Doomsday a few weeks ago: 15.50$ on ebay for a sealed game!

A big challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to capture yourself a RAM heavy cruiser, something I never managed to do. Try doing this without searching for a spoiler which tells you exactly how to do it.
Pretend it is the year Countdown to Doomsday was released, 1990. Internet? Nah
I have at least 5-6 RPGs on my playing list before this one, but I'll try to remember when I play it.
