My apologies for not checking back in sooner.
Running 32 bit Vista. Geforce 8600m GS. I could never even run the installer, but I did some searching and came up with this:
Details for Warhammer - Shadow of the Horned Rat
Made the whshr.bat mentioned.
Installer ran fine, but I couldn't start the game since it didn't even install an executable. It may work fine for others though. Looking at the code of whshr.bat I saw that it tries to copy some directories that are located in different places on my CD. I manually grabbed those off my CD and put them where I thought they belonged in my install directory.
After that it works great. The only thing I did was edit the shortcut for 256 color mode. It's only crashed twice and I've been playing a lot. Not uncommon for most games. Sometimes your battle map will be black, but simply alt tabbing and playing in windowed mode allows you to keep going.
The game is not as good as Dark Omen. Regiments and spells are much more responsive in DO than in SHR. The difficulty also gets brutal really fast.

I tried to play Prelude to Darkness, but I quit after 4 days. Although I could see its qualities, the bugs and the constant freezing were just too much.
So after putting PtD aside, I installed Alone in the Dark (the original one, not the recent release). It was my first real introduction to adventure games since the only ones I had played before, I played for a few minutes, just to try them.
I loved Alone in the Dark, but was surprised by its length. Are all adventure games that short? I don't know how much time it took me exactly on my first playthrough (I guess 7-8 hours), but I just replayed it a second time, and it took me less than 2 hours to complete once I knew the puzzles.
Edit: The funny thing is that when I put the box back on its shelf, I realized it was written "Over 50 hours of gameplay" on the side of the box!

Playing the Battlefield:heroes Beta. It's pretty fun, with the skills and all. Sign up for it if you like Battlefield (beware: this is a 3the person shooter)
Other than that, I'm still playing Forgotten hope 2, the superb mod for Battlefield 2.

Urquan Masters (Starcontrol 2) - downloaded as a free game online
- Gameplay is just awesome with this oldie
Bladerunner - (detective/shootem up game) Westwood studios released this game some time ago....great fun and has multiple endings depending how you do things throughout the course of the game...nice graphics (for its age) and great atmosphere also...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain. Time to die.

I got a copy of Mount & Blade for not a lot of money, and I'm absolutely obsessed with it at the moment. It's not without its flaws, but it has some of the most unashamedly fun combat of any action rpg I can think of, as well as not having anything magical or any super-powerful player characters. A truly wonderous game.
I'm taking a break from Empire: Total war, partly because it doen't run very well on my computer, and partly because the AI is, at times, spectacularly incompetent.

I'm currently playing through The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Already finished the Butcher Bay section and currently playing the Dark Athena section. Great game overall but I didn't like the platforming section in Dark Athena and the constant backtracking to the same areas you've been to previously.
Did play Medieval II: Total War before this but I couldn't be bothered to continue. Busy with work and the economic mechanics of the game didn't really appeal to me, as I am not into Civilisation, even though I found the battles enjoyable.

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Currently playing Mass Effect, Far Cry 2 (replay) and Cryostasis' demo, though I quit on it due to terrible performance.
