mountain climbing?

Post by spyder »

new to the game, FINALLY got it to work on vista. got my butt handed to me by the SWARMS of goblins and rats down in the sewer on my level 2 fighter. so decided to make a new character and train a bit before heading down there again. went exploring, jumped up on the mountain sides a bit and got raped by 3 giant spiders and scorpions that came down. tried that again and ran back to the temple ruins. they wont follow you up there so was able to stand and pick them off with a range attack. thats a SUPER fast way to get experience. now im reading in these forums there is a way to climb those mountains but for the life of me i cant figure out the way up, even found the map that points out the access points but still, no luck. any tips or tricks i need to know about climbing up there?
any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

As I've written here, I prefer elfs, dwarfs or thralls for climbing, and you require 4 or more points in athletics in order to do backflips which you need to go up some slopes. I noticed that light armour helps, too, while heavy, large weapons can be a hindrance.

On the physical side, you'll want a precise mouse, and make sure to adjust it properly to handle well in the game.

In order to find climbing spots, you'd best acquaint yourself with the landscape, and simply try to go up, either forward or doing backflips. Some climbs take a LOT of practice to accomplish while others are really easy to do, and the different characters are not equally suited for the task.

If you are trying to climb in an unfamiliar area, make sure to set your enemy encounters to 'less' to avoid enemy spam while you're trying to go up.

In Fargrove, some houses have ledges that you can jump up on with a backflip, and from there, jump onto a ledge that leads further up.

Equipment should have no affect on mobility, as long as there are no penalties for wearing it.

In most "good" climbing places, backflipping is necessary. Only the "excellent" climbing places do not. ;)

Taking screenshots and setting them up takes much longer than actually going up, sorry for the delay. :)

- The way up describes a flat semicircle.
- Look west for a tall tree and got past it
- Look around the rock face and jump up
- Jump to A, B, C
- Jump again, your almost up

I hope this'll help you to find the way up. :)
