Ice Sorceress Woes

Post by Nuadah »

Kinda tripped myself up on this one. specialized my sorceress in ice/cold magic and finished game. Now on my second go around I'm trying to finish Act 2 and can't seem to work it out. The boss at end of Act 2 this time is immune to cold. I haven't been able to get any trainers to work. Should I just continue running around killing stuff to level up to get other spell skills raised?

If you're playing online, ask someone to help you.
If your playing single player, it's rather difficult, you could TP away everytime you're almost dead, and use skillboosting items to do firedamage or another type.
Henchman can also be a big help.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Hello Nuadah and welcome to the board! :) I made exactly the same mistake as you when I built my first sorc - later I realised that a sorc does not survive by her own as a one-element specialist. You have combine skills from at least 2 of the trees if you want to be able to play on your own with any efficiency. Sure you can get a henchman (preferrably a pally from act two or a barb from act 5) and give him the best stuff and feed him with potions all the time, plus get a staff with some other spell on, but still it will very, very hard unless you play in a party.

What is your main skill in the cold tree? Frozen Orb (FO)? Blizzard? Have you focused on one skill, or spread your points out on many cold skills? My advice to you is to focus on one skill in the cold tree (FO or Blizzard, most people prefer FO since Blizzard is a bit unreliable) and one skill in the fire or lightning tree, for instance Firewall (FW), Hydra or electric Nova. If you choose Fire as you second element, you should also put points in Fire mastery since that increases your damage tremedously. Same thing goes for lightning. Cold mastery however have dimishing returns, so you should only put a few points there. Personally I think an FO/FW sorc is a very viable build, as is an FO/Nova build. However, a tri-elementalist is the most fun to play IMO, especially late in the game.

Good luck with your sorc!

Ice and Lighning sorcs or Ice and Fire sorcs work the best. If ur looking for Fire get Firewall, or Hydra if ur a dueler. For Lightning sorcs, get Nova (I'm not kidding) and Thunderstorm. Always have at least 10 points in Frozen Orb, it's a sorc staple.
