I've been thinking that there must be some kind of internal database within the game from which the random items from the 'sets' come. has someone yet thought of a way to hack into this to get at these sets in a more intentional manner?
I'd be interested in using something like this, for those particular swords or gloves, etc. that NEVER seem to turn up, or if at all, way after they're of any real worth.
So, has anything like this been developed/hacked yet? The best place to item farm, the Amanlu Arena chests, don't seem to be of much help, unless you're willing to spend A LOT of time reloading.... I've tried, with a party of 5 and all of my characters over +50% for finding magical items - the highest one being +190% (enchanting a legendary ring w/8 +15% charms really helped).
Hacks for item sets?
I don't know about hacking, I'm not quite that computer-savvy, but I have found an interesting place to try farming...
In Kalrathia, Act 3, there's a secondary quest in which an old man wants the collection of the "Lore of Aranna" books. Once you have them all, as a reward he gives you a book with a silly story, but if you talk to him again, he drops some SERIOUS loot. I had saved right before I went to talk to him, so out of curiosity I decided to reload to see what else he'd drop... I then spent the next hour or so reloading and checking out his drops - each time I got from 1-3 set items, as well as a few uniques and rares. Most of the items I either didn't have or had never seen!
A few items as an example (note that the names are simplified for this list):
Dwarven Lord's set helm, (melee lvl 36) AR 53, +20 STR, +20 AR, +25 max dmg, +8% melee resistance
Plainswalker's set boots (ranged lvl 42) AR 23, +38 DEX, +25 ice resist, +12% dodge melee, +3 quick draw, bleed, penetrate
Bloody Vengeance set amulet (ranged lvl 42) +35 DEX, 35% physical dmg reflected, +20% health regen., +7% power recharge rate
Mourneblade (unique long sword, melee lvl 42) dmg 38-96, (+32 max dmg), +12-20 death dmg, +26 AR, +22 fire resist
Now my only problem is deciding which save game to use!

I just finished up the Arena on vet, equipped 526% magic find on my nature mage (3 legendary rings and 1 spell book at 120% each plus a few other mf things), and got 2 pieces of the undying warlord set out of it after maybe 20 reloads or so. (I knew this new computer would come in handy) I still have the last two chests to open, but I figured I'd wait until I beat valdis again to play the reload game again. Damn, prismic baubles are hard to find now.
I found that doors 1-4 aren't very likely to have set items in them, and are usually of lower quality, so if you get something half ass out of those, save your game, then work on the other doors. Doors 5-10 are far more likely to have useful items. If you get something you can use from door 5 or 6, save your game and then work on doors 7 and 8, etc. I find it annoying as well about the finding unique items well past when it would have been useful to me. Although I actually did find a useful unique blade (my first actual useable unique) for my dual wielder by chance, not doing a reload game--Feanden's Lash.
Hopefully I'll eventually find me a Bloodletter or two when I get leveled up enough. I'm level 66 now. I'll probably make the run up to valdis a couple times and see what I can find from the mini-bosses who just so happen to be carrying around set items that they can't even use.
Although I haven't actually "cheated" yet, I am probably bending the rules a bit by reloading, but for those who don't care, and do want to cheat, there is a magic item trainer out there. I'll probably give it a try once I'm done with elite and if I haven't completed my sets yet.

Magic Item Trainer...
I decided to check out the magic item trainer that gid mentioned above. I haven't extracted it yet because I had to do a little studying first. For those of you who might not be as computer savvy as some please allow me inform you that the trainer is compressed in an .rar file, not a .zip file. They are similar, but different compression programs. You'll have to go to a site and download the WinRAR program to extract and use the trainer.
I'm not going to use the trainer until I get done playing DSII straight, but if any of you have used it I'd like to read about your experience with it.

Magic item trainer update
I tried to open the trainer mentioned above, but I don't know how to do it. The WinRAR program did its job, but after that I didn't have a clue. Anyone with success?

gid,
Thanks for the assist. Might be fun to use. I'll have to weigh it against the fun of 'chest opening anticipation'. I found a bunch of other trainers out there, but after figuring them out I decided not to use them. IMO they tend to reduce rather than increase the fun of the game.

Yeah I agree. It is kind of fun to actually play the game without cheating. Although there are some annoyances. I run into set items like crazy, finding many duplicates, and I've found many unique items many times over. I find it ironic that many rare items I find are more unique than many unique items. Because with rare items, there's so many possibilities, chances are you may never find that exact rare item again.
Anyways, for the life of me, I just can't find the last pieces of some sets to complete them.
Namely Undying Warlord, I have 3/5. Plainwalker'sa Journey 3/4. And Keh's Regalia, 2 sets of the same 3 pieces on each of my mages, missing the same piece in both sets.
I'm gonna be finished with elite before I've found everything. Maybe my 480% magic find on my nature mage isn't enough. I wonder if I should try equipping those rings on someone else, maybe my primary character?
