MF'ing

Post by Ciba_Blue »

I have 497% mf, while a friend of mine has a little over 600%. We both do meph runs, while the best item thats dropped for me in about 100 runs was a gheeds, he's gotten 2 soj's, 2 shakos, a few skulders, and some other high stuff. Why is it that my drops are so much crappier lol, from what i've heard its pointless to go over 500%, so why the crap drops?

You have bad luck and he doesn't. It's as simple as that. Btw you're right, after 100% there are diminishing returns for Rare/Set/Unique MF, so the Unique MF difference between 500% and 600% is perhaps 20%

Chance of SoJ dropping with 487 MF: 1/6714
Chance of SoJ dropping with 600 MF: 1/6481

As you can see there isn't much difference, your friend simply had godly luck (especially over 100 runs).

Like Moltovir and Noober says, you are simply less lucky than your friend, who on the other hand is extremly lucky in getting 2 SoJ:s in 100 Meph runs. The game works like that, it's random. Two ladders ago, I was extremly lucky and got a lot of good drops already in my first playing through the game with my Meteorb sorc. I got a Ber rune the 3rd or 4th time I did Chaos Sanctuary. I was also very lucky with the Hellforge, I think I got nothing lower than Ist for the first 5-6 characters. This time, I've been less lucky so I don't even have a Tal's armour yet - and no high runes at all. It varies a lot due to randomness, but in the long run, you will always find good items if you are persistent.

Mfing

Ya, thought that the 100% difference didn't matter much lol, the drops are getting better though, I picked up a Kuku Shakaku yesterday, and a tals belt. Meph has been really inconsistent though, ranging from about 30 runs with nothing but crappy rares to gheeds and other high uni's.

So whats good then?

If you say its pointless to have more than 100% mf, then why to people with 400-700% mf find the items more than those with 100% mf? I've tried both ways and and i find items more commonly with my 500% mf than 100%. I guess there is an open debate about this. Please explain some more about this.

In two words: Diminishing Returns (just like how an Assassin Weapon Block chance doesn't not improve linearly with investment).

The probability of getting an Arachnid's Mesh off Hell Mephisto with the following MF:
0 - 1/2627
100 - 1/1536
200 - 1/1246
300 - 1/1115
400 - 1/1037
500 - 1/989
600 - 1/953
700 - 1/926
7000 - 1/712

6300 MF more then 700 makes a difference of alot less then 100 MF more then 0.

After looking at your chart you show....what would you recommend for an ideal amount of mf? I see that the biggest jump is from 0 to 100. It appears to me that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have like 300 or 400. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

The best amount of MF you can have is the highest amount you can pack without sacrificing speed, safety or killing power too much. Most of my MF characters run around with 100-200% MF when killing monsters or teleporting, and right before I face the act boss I swap two or three slots for MF gear, giving me 300-500% MF when I kill the boss.
