Bow/crossbow or throwing weapon

Post by Roderick »

Hi. :)

I've started playing DS2 just recently and I'm having a problem on choosing which part of the Ranger tree to choose should i go as a marksman or should i go with the more Xena-like style.

Please help!

I always liked bows best. Thunderous shot was my favorite power.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

I'd go with Bows anyday.

As pointed out above, Thundershot is a god send in a narrow cave/corridor full of nasties.

However, i have never really used throwing weapons, i tend to stick to bows and crossbows (preferably long bows, since i liked to RP Ranger-style). Also, there are more options open to Bows and Crossbows. Most Powers are based on Bows/Crossbows and most of the skills are also more related to the Bow/Crossbow. Though, to be truthful, i have never tested it myself.

Has anyone done a ranged character based on throwing weapons?

for me it depends on the situation - bows are great for RAPIDLY dishing out a lot of damage at a modest distance, but when you want to keep your ranged player safe then the crossbow can't be beaten. Thunderous shot is great if your opponents are helpfully lined up but can be a waste otherwise.

Shrapnel blast can be very useful when your team is being mobbed as it speads out the damage in a wide area

Tried thrown...didn't like it. Amen on the thunderous shot. I recommend the bow/crossbow route. You can pick up vix along the way if you want to try thrown weapons and see what it is like. But...(as stated in another post)...be warned!!! Vix will "die" a lot. That man draws some serious agro.

I chose throwing for one very simple reason...

They did NOT include bowstrings. Standing there and pulling back a string that isn't there looks plain stupid IMO.
