Saerileth and the Shadow Thief Quest- possible minor spoilers

Post by Edar Macilrille »

I have her in my party (I run BG about once a year with new mods for variation) and have yet to notice any Multiple Romance Bug (which I was unaware of), but I have a problem that I find no solution for searching my mind or the Frum.
No it is not the Dragon, I wasted it fairly easily at Group lvls 11- 16 with Sari, Yasra, Minsc, Anomen, Kelsey and Kensai-Mage-Thief PC, perhaps that particular "Bird" is vulnerable to melee for Fiirkrag had just creamed us in our attempt on him. Nor was it the Devil in Hell, I had no problems hitting him, a difficult fight, but not impossible. Flail of Ages worked well.

No, the problem is with Raetric (sp?) that Edwin wants killed in the Shadow Thief Quest. Edwin will accept nothing less than a kill and Raetric is incredibly belligerent. No matter what you do or say he turns hostile and you have to fight him.

A dead end? Should I abandon the quest or can anyone provide a helping hand?

My experience is that if you want to keep Saerileth you have to give up on the thieves guild quest completely, which makes sense.

Also you will have to give up any idea of acquiring Crom Feyr as well, she'll have nothing to do with gaining the Frost Giant belt you need for it.

You have to do the Shadow Theives quest before picking up Saerileth, she's simply not down with it, period!

As far as Crom and the Frost Giant Belt I had no problems with that. Thinks work a little differently than normal but to avoid the "Sacrifice" since obviously Saeri wouldn't have anything to do with that. Its possible that this was a change in a newer version since I played it early this year. Crom is a perfect offhand weapon for Saeri when she has The Purifier as a main hand weapon.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

But the Frost Giant Belt is on a Demon Knight you kill in the Kuo Toa village is it not? Why does she have a problem with offing Demons?

To make the Demon Knights appear you have to offer a sacrifice at the alter of Demogorgan Prince of Demons. When I played Saerileth ********* Spoilers to follow ******************************* ******* *************************************************************** ************************************************* ******************************************************

They basically just attack you outright with no Sacrifice because they sense Saerileth (Chosen of Tyre). She makes a comment about it, pretty cool actually.

You could just 'accidentally' kick her out of the party while she was located on the opposite side of the map to your PC, and take her back into the fold after you'd summoned & made the sacrifice.
As long as you take her back in when she talks to you there's no harm done, right?

Alternately, there's a nice gibbet in the Forest of Tethyr you can get a character to with Ctrl+J. I like to call it the 'Gibbet Hilton' if you get my drift...:mischief:

Yes it happens pretty much as you enter that room, actually made that fight much harder since I wsn't buffed and had no summons ready. The one Demon night level drains which is a PITA.

I was A] worried that it might break the romance, and B] was playing Paladin myself. Iwanted to see how the mod would react though, and it reacted ust as Ithought it should. I wasn't disapponted as I'd never counted on having the true Hammer of Thunder anyway.

I have been planning a run with Saeri using an Inquisitor as a PC mainly for rollplaying reason, but also because the more NPC romance mods I play the more Saerileth stands out as one of the best.

Haven't tested it but I'd assume it works like the Jaheira romance, where you can remove her from the party, she'll come and ask your PC if he's sure he wants her to go, and only if he says he's sure he wants her to leave is the romance screwed (i.e. ask her to stay after all and the romance continues).

Prsonaly, if I'm romancing Saerileth I'm pretty locked in and committed (which is what thats Mod is all about) I'm not risking Saerileth for anything I don't care what the trade off is! I make her drink healing potions more than any other player because I'm not risking her ever :)

Take that feminism!:p

EDIT - I just tried the 'you wait here behind a closed door while I go out and...do some stuff' trick, killed Edwin's wizard, and wandered back to pick her up again. All was fine until just after I'd finished the guild, when she had a hissy fit, came out with the line she says after you kill the wizard, and left. So yeah, there doesn't seem to be any way around it (I'm using the more interjections Tweak, so as soon as I go into the Temple district to get the Priestess of Talos' necklace she speaks to the PC and I have to either pick her up or lose her forever), which is a pity 'cos Imoen's waiting and that 10000gp reward would help a lot. The only other option I can think of would be killing/pickpocketing Edwin for the strongbox key and getting the documents that way, but I'm not sure if his key is droppable or not.

Talos Amulet Item code: CLUAConsole:CreatItem("misc4Y")

Now you should be able to complete the quest without having to go the temple district.

I just pickpocketed her- advantage of being Kensai- Mage-Thief ;-) Sari did not like it, but accepted saying, "The Priestess may be an evil woman, but you should not steal from her" or some such.

I have abandoned the thief quest though. There is no lack of money and items in the other quests so np with that.

Yeah, I just cheated it in, thank you Shadowkeeper :D . Doesn't help the original poster though, since he's already quite a bit into it and has picked Saeri up already - you might be able to get away with it if you boot her from the party behind a closed door (The top floor of the 5 Flagons Inn or the Copper Coronet slave pens/beast pens/'love rooms' should all work for this) before accepting either Edwin's task or Renal's request in the first place, and pick her up again later, but if she registers killing the wizard even when she's not there/in the party I'm betting it'll still make her leave.

Alright, Odie has found a (partial) solution! Just tested it then, Edwin does indeed carry the strongbox key and it is a droppable item - when he sics you onto Raeric Gethras just kill him, take his key, and you can still expose Mae'var and get most of the XP and gold. If you have a thief/bard with a decent pickpocket score you shouldn't even have to kill him, though I can't test this myself since Yoshimo has sweet FA pickpocket skillz. It's not the full quest and you probably won't be able to get Edwin and Saerileth both (not that you can if you get her first anyway), but it's about as close as you'll get.

EDIT - there ya go, you can just lift the key straight from Edwin, then go kill the thieves after exposing Mae'var (should make Saeri feel better after stealing from the Thunderchurch).
