Hey all, I just got this game for a couple of bucks and I'm really eager to give it a whirl.
Problem is, I don't know where to begin with all those skills and (prestige) classes. I already noticed that dual-classing isn't possible in this game (unlike Baldur's Gate), so would anyone mind giving me a few pointers where I should begin? I usually played a Fighter/Cleric in BG2 and I was hoping to go in that direction somewhat.
I do have another question regarding dialogue. I noticed it is possible to get a skill called Intimidate or Diplomacy, but do you need a certain stat to talk your way out of a nasty situation? Charisma maybe?
Anyways, thanks!
Where to start..?
You can have up to 4 classes per character - as long as you meet the pre-requisites. This means that it is possible to have a fighter/cleric. Just choose fighter when you level up and then next time choose cleric etc. The only thing you need to be careful about is that if there is more than one level difference between your non-prestige classes then you get an XP penalty, unless one of those two classes is your race's favoured class (in which case that class is not counted when determining if you get a penalty).
As for dialogue skills - they use charisma as their base stat, and then can be enhanced by the skills. However, it is possible to use other stats in your conversations, such as wisdom or intelligence, but charisma is far more useful in dialogue.
