total defense vs total ac? what is the difference?

Post by Wildeyn »

Within minutes of starting Arcanum, I ran into having to wonder what the difference is between total ac and total defense. Is total ac just irrelevant, and the real number of your not-getting-hit-defense is total defense?

I am rather shocked and frustrated that I cannot find this answer anywhere. I have searched forums, google, and the manual. It seems like such a major question, and yet nobody seems to have it or answer it.

Maybe it is just obvious to everybody but me. Can anybody clue me in?

Total Defense is a total average of all your defenses: AC + Resistances (Fire, Poison, Damage, etc.)

yeah - thanks Gawain.

At first that math didn't seem to fit, but I ended up finding a ring that gave only resistances and by using that to test, I figured that out also.
