A quest for the ultimate dps class
A quest for the ultimate dps class
I am looking for a game. A game where mages and warriors don't necessarily have to be separate. meh ill cut to the chase. Warrior/mage class. Pure dps. medium-heavy armor. And equal magic/melee capabilities. Damage/debuff/curse abilities mainly for magic side. Any game supply this? (If anyone recommends shamen/paladins from WoW, i'll rip off their heads and.... well.... hang them on those deer plaques to gaze upon their newfound master :laugh
. Don't recommend Runes of Magic, i had warrior/mage and not that great there, not really mixed well.

Try checking out the Arcane Warrior from Dragon Age as well the bards, fighter/mages, cleric/mages and so forth from the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Other options include Morrowind and Oblivion where you can tailor your character to your own wishes. Be warned though, doing so effectively in Oblivion is very counter intuitive.

One came, though being pure hack 'n slash, is Demise - Rise of Ku'Tan.
Nice game where you can have character with any combination of classes (mage, warrior, cleric, thief and several other classes). The only limit of which classes are available to the character is the race and alignment of your character. You can also form party up to four characters if you want.
The game is hack 'n slash or dungeon crawl, so there is not that much character interactions inside or outside the dungeon. But if you are up to those two genres, the game can be very addictive. And it's very long, so lots of playtime waiting there.

I'd also highly recommend The Witcher. A mix of magic use and swordwork is essentially built right into the character.
You play an already-created protagonist (though at level up you can decide where to focus his skills), but his personality is so well developed and the story so deep and well told that it really doesn't detract at all from the experience.
If you enjoyed BG2 and/or Planescape:Torment, you'd probably like Witcher.

I'd also think Morrowind is the place to go as you customise the class as you will. Looking down my game collection, I think you could probably do it in Arcanum too, though I can't remember the heavy armour/spellcasting failure rules... In Icewind Dale II you'd have to wait til near the end of the game but there is a proper suit of armour which doesn't impede upon spellcasting.dragon wench wrote:I'd also highly recommend The Witcher. On the subject of the Witcher though, I'd disagree to some point with the "if you like BG2/PS:T" comment, although you did qualify probably to be fair. My main problem with the Witcher is it's got far too many MMO-style grind quests of the "collect ten orc skulls" variety which as someone who likes to complete all the quests at any stage of a game before moving on is very frustrating because they just become tedious to do and caused me to just lose the will to play it before I finished it. I hope for the sequel they choose a more organic quest style to pad things out with.

Admittedly, I didn't care for the go kill X number of Y quests either, just like I didn't enjoy all the fedex missions in BG1. This is a major reason why I become bored with MMOs. By the same token, much as I like Dragon Age, I consider the side quests to be terrible, for the most part.On the subject of the Witcher though, I'd disagree to some point with the "if you like BG2/PS:T" comment, although you did qualify probably to be fair. However, I found the story, NPC personalities and main quests in The Witcher to be good enough that I was able to overlook the collection errands.
Also, the OP mentioned a mix of magic and melee combat, of which Witcher has ample.
I've read that CD Projekt is indeed addressing that issue in the sequel. So, we'll see when it comes out.
@Artem1620.
I think Morrowind is also a great suggestion. You can customise your character any way you want. I don't think I've ever played a game that allows so much freedom in character development. Sadly, its sequel, Oblivion, isn't as good.

Yeah, I agree with the others: Arcanum is the game you are looking for.Artem1620 wrote:I am looking for a game. Also: Might and Magic VI (archers are awesome), Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Diablo
I don't recommend any AD&D based game due to the heavy restrictions they impose on each and every class.
Elder Scrolls games have flexible character customization like Arcanum, but unfortunately they are crappy games, so...
admittedly my first reaction was morrowind. as everyone else has suggested, you have the flex there to focus on developing your toon is almost any way.
2nd thought was hey that sounds a lot like some of the toons you can play in knights of the old republic (1 or 2, but more towards 2) swords - check, armor - check. silly powerful force powers - check. ultimate dps? use the force.
