World's Favorite Videogames chosen by the people
If you feel like putting your 2 cents in, here's new project where each gamer make his/her top 25 favorite games of all time (1st=25pts, 2nd=24pts, ..., 25th=1pt), and those results are compiled together in real-time to decide the world's favorite games.
Here are the current results that involves 938 gamers so far.
Other top-lists are also available (by years, decades, genres, systems and even a Top 10 most wanted) for you to mess around with.
Post the link of your Top games and feel free to discuss your choices!
It's a really fun concept, especially if you're a longtime gamer (and bored ).

I don't see Dwarf Fortress, The Guild series, Space empires series, Constructor, Conflict series..? and MANY more avaliable on the list, so i call BS on that poll. DF beign the only understandable absence, since it's made by one man and not yet finished.. Still having more players than most 'big ones'.
edit : For the love of... I see some silly flash games on the list AND 591250920 megaman games(!!!!), and core tittles missing?
In short, the list is very limited. I see a "suggest new tittles" button.. I guess i'll spend some time adding my picks there.
I bet Resident Evil 4 will win for.. here's the kicker.. it's scary parts.
Or possibly FF 7 for the biggest dose of emoing in gaming history (still an awesome game and i'll vote for it)
Just like some cartoon douche was named the greatest villan in gaming history a while ago...
The problem beign that most people didn't play many games enough to have seen more than a few of each genre. That's why Average Joe will enter the site, see the front page (with 50 that are already top) and pick most of the 25 from there, adding only a few he may know and are not top. Myself, looking at page FIFTY i see awesome, epic and legendary tittles, with only one or two votes.
Tremble and despair.
edit : Oh, look, RE4 is 9th already
edit : Anyone who knows me : Imagine if i voted for icewind dale 2, nwn 2 and oblivion
At any rate, if our brave and honorable forum members don't mind, let's post our lists HERE aswell
1. Dwarf Fortress - For a milion reasons, which would fill ten posts.
2. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn - For endless replays and Irenicus beign badass
3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - For THE best storyline ever made
4. X-COM: UFO Defense - For people who played it for the first time
5. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - For 1500 pages of journal and obliterating cities
6. Hearts of Iron II - For amazing replayability and possibilities
7. Rome: Total War - For best large scale tactical system
8. Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares - For perfection in genre
9. The Temple of Elemental Evil - For beign able to solve every quest in five ways
10. Age of Wonders - For the BEST storyline in strategy games. For SIX differend possible endings.
11. Thief II: The Metal Age - For.. i'm sorry, i cannot describe it the way i want
12. The Guild 2 - For beign unique in every way
13. Aquanox - For unique world
14. Resident Evil 2 - For T-Zombie, windows and many more
15. Jagged Alliance 2 - For beign simple and complex at the same time
16. Dungeon Keeper 2 - For unique world
17. Space Empires IV - For beign THE strategy sandbox. Sandbox incarnate.
18. Unreal - For beign the mile stone in FPS history
19. Mount & Blade - For amazing combat system and sandbox as an RPG
20. Dominions 3 - Insanely complex and open strategy game. Also insanely overpriced, thus not known to almost ANYONE.
21. Final Fantasy VII - For complex and amazing storyline and great characters
22. Constructor - For unique options, dark setting
23. Conflict: Desert Storm - For the best squad managment at its time, and tanks
24. Mass Effect 2 - For perfectly filling storyline between parts 1 and 3, and for option to make everything go bad
25. Dungeon Master - I admit, the last one i picked cause of sentiment
I'll probably switch some position near the bottom tomorrow.

As I for one have never played any of the games you mention Stworca, and haven't even heard of some of them, I'm not too surprised they haven't received votes.
When I get home and have some time to spare I'll see if I can come up with a worthy 25, but I doubt any TES games will make my list, much as I enjoyed the modded versions of Morrowind and Oblivion; Daggerfall was just too badly bugged to be worth a vote. Although desperation to think of 25 will probabl mean I do end up having Morrowind on the list somewhere.
PS Many of the games I will include will almost certainly not make the top 100, or maybe even top 500, as most of the voters will not be old enough to have come across many of them. I didn't scroll down far enough to find out if Elite is one there for example, but I doubt it.

I took Morrowind cause of it beign the last "OLD" RPG, with lots and lots of story, quests and stuff. When I get home and have some time to spare I'll see if I can come up with a worthy 25, but I doubt any TES games will make my list, much as I enjoyed the modded versions of Morrowind and Oblivion; Daggerfall was just too badly bugged to be worth a vote. Age doesn't have to be a factor here. It's just that some game weren't ever reviewed in many portals and / or magazines, aswell as the fact that for some (you, me) graphics do not matter. For others, they do. A LOT.PS Many of the games I will include will almost certainly not make the top 100, or maybe even top 500, as most of the voters will not be old enough to have come across many of them. As i made the list i realised that 25 is actualy very small amount, as i had trouble with every tittle outside top 3. Dwarf Fort, BG2 and MGS3 were simply ahead of everything for me. Even though i havent played MGS3 for ages, same with BG2, and DF is in ALPHA stage..
I also may regret things like giving Morrowind such high position, but that's why there's an edit button, if i reconsider tomorrow.
Some people will probably want to burn me for not adding Zelda.. But it's not a top 25 material for me. Others may want to burn me for not adding pokemon.. I'll laugh at them and never again read their messages.
I may burn myself for not adding World of Warcraft, which even tho i last played.. 4 years ago? i am aware that the milions still playing it and many more millions that playED make it a potential top material, for beign the grandest and best MMO.
Chrono tiger, Half Life, Starcraft, Team Fortress, Civ.. while awesome, aren't top 25 for me.
Most of the old games that i didnt include, such as EOTB (eye of the beholder) aren't top 50 material, although they deserve ALL the credit for beign pioneers and shaping the games that we have & love now.
M&M, Ultima & co. just aren't my style.
That's it for explainations, although if you'd ask, i would gladly continue. I like talking about games, esp. the good ones
edit : It seems that after i added DF to the list, at least two other people voted for it, in the past 10 minutes. It warms my heart!

Well, the game is coded by one person, but there is actually two person working on the project: Tarn and Zach Adams. Also, there was third person involved, the one who developed better graphic handling since 40d* versions, which was eventually included the new official version.Stworca wrote:I don't see Dwarf Fortress, The Guild series, Space empires series, Constructor, Conflict series..? and MANY more avaliable on the list, so i call BS on that poll. But otherwise true, due being indie game DF doesn't get lots of attention in public, especially since it's still in alpha state (fully playable alpha!) and the learning curve... I mean cliff, is just too much for most casual gamers.
But here is my list, going to vote as soon as I find the games from the lsit:
1) Dwarf Fortress
2) Fallout 2
3) Fallout 1
4) Baldurs' Gate 2
5) Planescape: Torment
6) Civilization 3
7) Heroes of Might and Magic 3
8) Dungeon Keeper 2
9) ADOM
10) Starcraft 2
11) Doom 2
12) SimCity 2000
13) Resident Evil 2
14) Fallout: New Vegas
15) Resident Evil 5
16) Return to Castle Wolfenstein
17) Final Fantasy 7
18) Final Fantasy 8
19) Caesar III
20) Pharaoh
21) Worms 2
22) Black & White
23) Diablo 2
24) Diablo 1
25) Thief II

By cliff you mean bottomless chasm of doom, despair and insanity, with menacing spikes of moss agate and pictures of dwarves in pig tail and dwarves, the dwarves speak with the dwarves.... Yeah, that'd be Dwarf Fortress.Kipi wrote: But otherwise true, due being indie game DF doesn't get lots of attention in public, especially since it's still in alpha state (fully playable alpha!) and the learning curve... Just like DW, I'm the only working on that list and there's 3100 games in the database. If you request a title, I'll add it in no time
I think it's cool that you tried to bring DW up the list by getting more gamers involved. But some are only voting for DW. Soon I might have a policy that will not count list with less than 10 games. Well, still thinking about though

Or those who just don't think the games they played are top 25 material
Or those who don't CARE about games other than their top 3
Or..
I hope that you see what i did there
I've noticed that the adding was quite fast, and that you indeed are the administrator there (from the "Hey Worca" e-mail naturally!) You may ask yourself why did i add more tittles than i voted for.. I just felt like they deserved it.Just like DW, I'm the only working on that list and there's 3100 games in the database. I also noticed that you have a review section.. I may visit it quite soon! (to pollute with my poor, narrow-minded and sold to the highest bidder reviews)
As for DF alone.. A year ago i was surprised that anyone liked a game like that at all, not knowing anything about it at all.. Now i just hope that more people will give those spartan graphics a chance.
Lastly, but most important, excuse my harsh language in first post. I have rather terrible memories about all online top game polls. Shodan (system shock) getting kicked out from villain poll by some douche monkey that throws barrels at climbing people ("because he never gives up"... ... kill me now) is a perfect example.
Edit : Damn i should've added Uncharted 2 on my list somewhere.. Argh!
Opps, doublepost! If DragonWench was here, she'd struck me down..

Monkey Island 2/Special Edition
Caesar 3
Icewind Dale 1
Morrowind
Monkey Island 1/Special Edition
Tomb Raider 1/Anniversary
Those are the only games I really go back and play regularly so I guess that would be my top. I don't think I could reasonably put 25 up there because I haven't really played 25 "great" games. I think for a game to actually be great it has to have continued replay value for the player, and not just be a one-off nice experience.

On the long run one of the goal of this site will be to shed some light on obscure games like DW. I might give it a shot now
Wow, this is much tougher than I thought. Got to 25 with ease, now having to filter out games to make room for ones I'm remembering. No room for Elder Scrolls or BG2, but I do still have BG on the list, so far.

Well as it says favorite games and not best games... I suppose these are mine (I feel I might need to justify some of them )
25. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I like it for it's lush open world and hate it for its crappy main plot and lazy voice acting.
24. The Saboteur: An impulse buy when in HMV at the end of 2009 and turned out to surprise me on many level, but a bit buggy!
23. Star Wars Jedi Knights II: Jedi Outcast (The best fun you can ever have with a lightsabre - but it does descend into a jumping game after a while)
22. Dragon Age: Origins
21. Arcanum - RPG with an incredible amount to do.
20. Sid Meiers Pirates!
19. Duke Nukem 3D (Brings back a lot of teenage memories)
18. Mass Effect
17. The Witcher
16. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
15. Planescape: Torment - I love this game so much, I cannot bring myself to know how it ends. Some things are best left unfinished.
14. Age of Empires - so many good memories playing multiplayer across Uni network.
13. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
12. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (I prefer it to the first one - it lacks the polish of KOTOR, but never was there a planet better than Nar Shadda, and it's Force Styles, Prestige Classes and Swoop Races were all better)
11. Medieval 2: Total War
10. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father
9. Full Throttle
8. Portal
7. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (Was the reason for my second Graphics card upgrade)
6. Mass Effect 2
5. Civilisation II - imho the best of all the Civ games. Civ III was dull, Civ IV was dumbed down and Civ II took everything great about Civ and made it windows compatible and multiplayer!
4. Day of the Tentacle
3. Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
1. Neverwinter Nights - If anyone really wants to know why I will put up a blog post.

I can elaborate - I've not played Rome: Total War... yet! I:laugh:Stworca wrote:Wait.. Medieval 2 over Rome? Graphics over.. well, a few better features? Could you elaborate?
Two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do!

Thanks for bringing back memories, Darth G.
The old Gabriel Knight series...played all 3 of them and really enjoyed them.
which brought up another oldie in my mind of games I played around that time period.....
Lemmings....I know...a silly little addicting game...
and Monty Pythons Complete Waste of Time..
and Pythons Search for the Holy Grail...would spend hours playing the tetris like mini-game in that one...

I actually spent some time on this, more than I have before when posting in this type of thread, so, in no particular order, here's my top 25
Elite
Dungeon Master
The Bard's Tale
Captive
Baseball Pro '98
Eye of the beholder
X: Beyond the Frontier
Championship Manager
Betrayal at Krondor
Hearts of Iron
Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance
Might and Magic III
Might and Magic VI
Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge
Wizardry 8
Populous
Pirates
Lemmings
Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
Ishar: Legend of the Fortress
Midwinter
Stonekeep
Baldur's Gate
Menzoberranzan
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Honourable Mentions:
Sid Meier's Civilization
Gauntlet
Gods
Mega-lo-mania
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge, Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge 2
Menzoberranzan
Merchant Prince
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos
Sim City
Might and Magic II
Knight Orc
Thunderscape
Doom
Wizards & Warriors
Mostly I've stuck to the first in the series unless a subsequent title has been a lot different (M&M), or the sequel has been seriously better than the original (Speedball 2). Some sequels might have made it had the downside not balanced or outweighed any improvements (BG2 for instance). Games that were too badly bugged (Daggerfall) were disqualified, as were games that were too dependent on third party mods like Morrowind and Oblivion.

[QUOTE=Darth Gavinius;1096098]Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
