Portrait Help?

Post by Truedge »

Hi guys,

I've been lurking here for a while now and got the itch to play bg2 again. I was wondering if someone could give me some information on custom portraits. I understand the pictures have to be bmp files that are 110 by 170 pixels for large images and 38 by 62 for small images. The color type is 24 bit and the file names fits under the character limit ending in S or L (for each respective size), the problem is that I seem to be getting a stone cutout with a question mark over the face. Custom portraits that I've downloaded seem to work. Is my problem that my pictures have too high of a resolution?

Thanks in advance. I've attached the pictures for your reference. (Hmm.. it doesn't seem to want to attach.) Basically what I did is take avatars from this site: Home / Recent pictures | Avatars Fantasy - Drakonis -
And use an image resizer called PIXResizer to edit it down into bmps of that size.

They have to be saved as a certain type. I cannot remember which one exactly, but look inside the folder if they are .bmp, .jpg or something else

Large image: 110w x 170h @ 24 bit bmp
Small image: 38w x 60h @ 8 or 24 bit bmp

Those are the requirements for bg1 portraits, which of course work in bg2. Try using paint.net or irfanview.

Thanks for the advice endboss, paint.net worked out well for me. For some reason MS paint didn't want to convert it properly to a 24 bit image.
