Go to Anvil and talk to the prophet. He'll tell you all you need to know.

That is assuming he/she has Knights of the Nine installed of course. I suspect that is the case, but the reference to getting the insufficient fame message makes me wonder if there is a problem with the installation. The only time I've experienced that problem was when another mod was clashing with KOTN, moving KOTN to the end of the load order fixed that.

In vanilla Oblivion the shrines are just there to gie buffs every time you worship at them, and to activate the shrines inside the temples. The idea being that you had to make a pilgrimage to a wayside shrine in order to prove your worthiness.

Fame really shouldn't enter into it the first time you pray at a wayside shrine as long as your fame is at least 1, but if your fame hasn't increased since then, you will get the 'Seek greater fame' message.

The way it works is when you activate a shrine the shine script compare your fame with a preset variable, and as long as that variable is less than your fame you get the blessing. At the start of the game each god's shrine variable is set to 0, but every time you pray at a shrine that particular shrine's variable is reset to your current fame.

E.G All scripts for shrines of Arkay have a variable called FameArkay, initially this is set to 0. Pray at a shrine of Arkay when your fame is 1 and you get a blessing, and FameArkay is reset to 1. Pray at a shrine of Arkay again without raising your fame and you get the "Seek greater fame to be judged worthy" message.

Note: If you deliver the Amulet to Jauffre then your fame is going to be at least one. If you haven't delivered the amulet it's about time you did!

Ah; I thought the wayshrines were part of the expansion. So ignore my previous post if you don't have KoTN, White-decent.

As for delivering the amulet, that's overrated. So is fame, for that matter. :mischief:

I don't know about over rated, but delivering anything to that bumbling buffoon has to be a bad idea.

On the basis of a leader being known for the subordinates he appoints; Urinal Septim really is a candidate for one of the worst leaders of all time just for making Jauffre the grandmaster of the blades.

Under his misrule, thanks in no small part to the bad leadership of the blades, Tamriel lurched from one crisis to another, each time having to be rescued by me. Really I'm the one who should have shrines dedicated to me, not the nine ......mmm, maybe Mankar Camoran had a point after all!

LOL! Maybe so! But me too!

Shrines also refuse to heal/bless you if if your infamy is greater than your fame. That same is true of the Temple alters.

I definitely think the Orcs must have a shrine to me somewhere, after all if it wasn't for my decision at the end of Daggerfall they'd still be treated like non-sentient vermin like the goblins! :D

Yes. It's the basic requirement to begin the Knights of the Nine quest. Bit pointless to do it beforehand, I think. Do something bad afterwards, before KoN, and I think you would have to do it all over again - and I'm not sure if it works that way.

There's a lot I really liked about that game, but be warned, it isn't known as Buggerfall for nothing. Make sure you download the patch as well, the game can't be finished without it.
