Yoshimo at the End of SoA *some spoilers*

Post by Philos »

After reading somewhere in these SoA threads that you could get Yoshimo back in the party after rescuing Imoen, I decided to try that on my current SoA game. I had left him in Athkatla at the Copper Coronet.
Spoiler
I did exactly as recommended and entered through the CC's righthand door and as soon as the scene loaded, I immediately engaged him in conversation and added him to the party. He died, of course, from the geas. Aerie then used a resurrection wand to bring him back. Worked like a charm.

I have just finished off Irenicus and landed in Hell. All the party members make some kind of statement commenting somewhat to the effect of "I think I just died". What happened next surprised me! Yoshimo made one as well. I had figured that he wouldn't comment at all, since the story line for him should have ended at the Asylum and certainly he was not intended to be around for the end.

I can't help but wonder if the game designers thought that perhaps someone might just figure out the little backdoor for getting Yoshimo back.

That depends where he stands, really. Sometimes only ctrl +.. what was the key.. is quick enough to recruit him before death.

This is also fixed in fixpack.

From a RP point of view its better to let him die, really..

Oh.. Weren't you supposed to join the AAR? Go there, now. :D

Oh, I agree completely. This is the only game I have done it in. Just wanted to try it once to see it. Shoot, I gave up the 200k XP for his quest. But it was worth it.

I really was just surprised that he even "had" an actually dialog comment scripted for the arrival in Hell since he shouldn't have even been there in the first place.

PS: Oh yes, meant to say, "I suppose timing is everything", regarding my post about the Space Hamster being my 666th. :)
Started to put that in the thread but was worried DW would tag me for spamming (my own thread). ;)

PPS: regarding AAR. "I am!?!" Oh better head over there.

lol! I'm actually somewhat relaxed about thread direction as long as they stay more or less on topic. But, like any natural conversation, some meandering is to be expected ;)

And on topic...
Interesting discovery about the dialogue in Hell. I'm guessing that there may have originally been plans to allow for an option where Yoshi somehow lives. If I recall there were originally supposed to be Valygar and Haer Dal'is (sp?) romances, but they were never done in the end. I know there are some other loose ends as well, but I can't remember them, it's been a while.

In the original scheme Imowimp was supposed to die in spellhold, so yes Yoshimo should have been able to survive under that plan.

By the time they got around to planning ToB though the change in direction had been set, so he can't actually accompany you in the transfer from SoA to ToB.

That actually reinforces the possibility that Yoshi wasn't originally intended to die, and that he was meant to permanently replace Immy as opposed to being a temporary swap. That is, of course, assuming people go with the Immy/Yoshi combo. I always choose Jan myself though... :D

Or maybe they meant for Nalia to replace Immy (at least the mage part) as another option, given how similar they look.

I think initially it was the latter, but leaving Yoshimo as an alternative for those who wanted an evil party.

Oh yes, she tends to do that all the time :)

Speaking of Yoshi, wasn't there an ascension-dumbing mod which brought him - along with a few others - back from the dead?

Poor Yoshimo... I have a soft spot for him. He's voiced by a really talented actor in the polish version and usually I take him to Spellhold just to add some drama. The whole scene is pretty intense, with you fighting him right after your soul has been ripped out by an evil mage. Especially the way he says, "There will be no redemption, so second chance."

Turns out there might have been...
Kitchen Witchcraft : Of Magic and Macaroni - a blog about, well, a witch in the kitchen.

Hah, yes. He is. Actually, our version is really good, even if we do say it ourselves :D
Irenicus is actually quite different from the original. I've compared them, out of interest. In the original, Irenicus is cold and analytical. Our is... mad. Not Tiax-mad, but disturbingly insane.

Heh, yes you are DW. Very much so! :)
My mischievious side just couldn't resist giving you a little elbow in the ribs. ;)
I will have to be careful lest I wind up getting doused with ketchup I think. :D
Very glad to see you back around BTW.

Back to the topic. Well I did learn something else too from this. Yoshimo does NOT make the transition to ToB. If I had read anything on that I didn't remember it. Well, I won the final battle and made the transition to ToB after the scene with Queen Ellisime. We were all standing there and the dialog says the party gains an item (the very nice necklace she gives) and then the party (minus Yoshimo) appears in the forest in ToB. Unfortunately, most of Yoshimo's gear fills all the empty slots in my backpack and as the game will do when a pack is full, I dropped several items (back in Suldenessaril) to make room. Which included that necklace and Celestial Fury which Yoshimo had been carrying. Had I just lost some of his arrows I would have been fine. But oh no, I got all of his arrows!!
Sigh! I went back and had to refight the final battle, not a huge deal, but inconvenient. This time I redistributed almost all of Yoshi's stuff to the other NPC's and left plenty of room in my pack for what he still had.

I guess that is what is get for trying to circumvent the "grand plan."

Talk about disproportionate retribution! All you do is keep an utterly doomed character from dying as it was fated for him to, and they take away Celestial Fury?

There's a "Keeping Yoshimo Mod" at G3, I think. I'm waiting eagerly to give it a try, I just hope they have the sense to leave the original dialogue you discovered!

Tell me about it! :)
AND to rub salt in the wound I DID get Yoshimo's personal +1 katana which was in his backpack. WOW!!!

I too have a bit of a soft spot for poor Yoshi. When I start using mods (one of these days :o ) I would like to try that one that keeps him.
