Ah, my (Sith) lord, that's what virtual drives and .iso files are for! :laugh:

Anyway, I suppose it was just an inferiority complex. I hear he's ok, with a happy-sparkly sort of girl, very nice, just not she sharpest one around. Each to his own I guess, although judging by the number of gentlemen we have on this forum, I'd say his definition of "manly" got led astray a bit. Another reason to say "good riddance."

Speaking of inferiority, I suppose we will just have to write those additional hit points off as another little discrepancy between BG and paper D&D rules.

Flirting will get you nowhere, missy. I AM the definition of a grumpy chauvinistic bastard. Quite an achievement at the tender age of 31. Where was I...? Hit points, right.

I always edit my savegames when starting a new SoA game in various places to root out some of the discrepancies that annoy me. Example: If one character used some particular weapon in BG1 and I gave them points in it, I always edit it so that they have those same proficiencies in BG2. And of course delete the profiencies they might have in BG2 and didn't have in BG1 and weren't assigned by me. It all depends. Minsc, as an example, would keep his points in Bows if I had him use them in BG1, but if I had him use something else, I edit it so he has those other proficiencies. I might give him points in Bows as I level him up, if I have him use them later on in BG2, but that's a whole other story.

Now, I hate odd numbers, so if my Bhaalspawn has, say, 5 extra hit points in BG2, I edit them out, so the numbers are correct. I know, I'm a freak that way. The same with my other party. If I leveled Jaheira or Imoen up in BG1 with full hit points, of course they get a full compliment in that area when starting out in BG2, instead of the measly amount they has from the start in BG2.

Cheating? I don't know... oh, and I really don't care. I consider it fixing the game where the transistion from BG1 to BG2 screws it up.

If you start the game with a newly created character on either easy or normal, you'll get an ~ 10% hp bump to start.

also, there are a few mods that will only give barbarians d10 instead of the d12 (easy to spot if you're using max hp on level up).

Did you read through this thread? :)
I'd like to see you back your claim up with some ingame stats.
I've established characters made in SoA/ToB get an extra HD of hp and I'm very glad to have found my answer, but this arbitrary 10% hp bump pisses all over it QQ
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

I started to read through it, but got sidetracked by the pages of off-topic internet flirting/whatever that is... :(

Yes, it's an extra hit die of HP not including constitution bonus for newly created characters, but assuming you're putting some effort into your stats and getting the best CON for your PC, you get (assuming max hp per hit die)

Fighter: 7th level ftr with 18 CON should have 98 HP, gets 108. 10/98 = 10.2%

Mage = 7th level mage with 16 CON should have 42 HP, gets 46. 4/42= 9.5%

Cleric = 7th level cleric with 16 CON should have 70 HP, gets 78. 8/70= 11.4%

Thief = 8th level thief with 16 CON should have 64 HP, gets 70. 6/64 = 9.4%

Thus, for newly created characters, you get ~10% extra HP. ~ is shorthand for "approximately".

Raising a Wizards Con from 6 to 8 through draw upon holy might results in a hp increase. According to the manual HP should not increase until you reach 15 Con, where you gain +1 modifier.

What a mess, does anyone know the correct calculation?
I am not sure right now but is it not the case that you get a penalty to HP when your CON is 6 or lower and it gets remedied when your CON gets higher?

Edit: Should have read the first page, it already got confirmed. Sorry or redundant post.

A lot of things happened, actually, but The Baldur's Gate Issue was the cherry on top of the cake:
After about a year of constant nagging about me playing the same (stupid) game many times (which is stupid), and generally complaining about a game he hasn't played, Andy decided he will, to strenghten his cause.
We hit the hp thing right at the start: I've just rolled a female paladin, and he a berserker (how fitting) and wham! She has more hp than him.

Cue 40 minutes of angry monologue on how this proves the game favours female gamers, because (he reasoned) any game that requires you to read dialogue and talk with party members, maybe even listen to what they say (gasp!) could in no way ever appeal to manly men such as him. Especially with no nudity and suchlike. The game is therefore as idiotic as any C-grade chick flick or harlequin novel and my playing it finally proves my intellectual inferiority.
At which point I called my chums from the fantasy convention, we went out to a bar and laughed our heads off for 4 hours. I've never had so much free beer in my life :D

A for the additional hit points, I think Stworca might be onto something. We do know some monsters have their hp lowered in comparison with the rules, so the PC might have them augmented. The Child of Bhaal is special, after all.
Hilarius. :laugh:
Question, did you edit your own face into that Avatar which uses the Viconia portrait as base? ^^
