Hi everyone, I am hoping someone here can give me a little help.
My cousin and I are trying to start a Baldur's Gate II Multiplayer game, but he has a Mac and I have a PC. I remeber doing it a long time ago with GameSpy Arcade and now they have a new program but it is not available for Macs.
I was wondering if anyone knew if we will be able to play together and if so how? We've tried just doing a direct connection in the Multiplayer screen, but it never connects. One of us will start a game and the other will type in the IP adress, do we need to do something besides this?
I hope someone here can help, we really want to do this MP. I've searched the forums here but only one person I can find has asked this exact question but he never got an answer.

Now, I just want to double-check a few things, so please don't take offense:
1. Both of you are running the EXACT same version of Baldur's Gate II, same patch, same everything, right? This is a first and foremost requirement?
2. Are you two on the same network? What are the first two octets (first two numbers such as number1.number2.number3.number4.)?
3. If you are not on the same network, try using an application such as Hamachii. It's essentially a VPN client, and will allow you to form a connection as if you are on the same LAN as your cousin.
4. You technically could still use Gamespy if your cousin has Bootcamp, which is essentially a Windows partition on his Mac.

I have something to mention that doesn't address this question. This time. But if you enjoy multiplayer with cousin it might be interesting to know.
Two worlds 2 is a good hack and slash multiplayer. BEAUTIFUL detailed three dimensional environments and exciting combat. Quite exciting for a warrior which is what me and bro played as. A lot of moves and placement in combat was tactical. For example my brother had a polearm so he could whirl into groups and hit all with a whirl move. He's a little stronger not sure if its the build or me. My character is interesting too he thrives on one and one moves so my focus is engaging one and then squaring to my brother as a wall or else backing off to prevent getting surrounded. I can: strip shields (those guys are brutal to face when they have shields), throw dust in the eyes which staggers for 3 seconds, kick humanoids on the ground where I can hit them, cast a radial warcry that does spirit damage and 2/3 chance to stun.
It is about 35 hours of gameplay and again its hack and slash, not BGesque. It has loot but not as interesting loot as BG. You can also be a mage or ranger (bows).
And no, I don't receive any financial benefit for TW2 haha

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Thanks guys for the replies. And just to clear something up(I looked at my pervious post and found it to me somewhat misleading.) When we played multiplayer a long time ago, we were both on PCs.

In simple terms, yes, pretty much that - however, not through a third party application such as AIM, more of through shared folders and so forth.
An octet is essentially a fourth of an IP address (called an octet because each part is made out of eight bits) - I just want to be sure that you're using your external IP address and not your LAN one (usually starts at 192.168.x.x) for home networks.

That's the IP address I gave to my cousin to use as mine. Is this the correct one?
He is trying to get BootCamp set up on his computer, he just needs a windows disk. I think this is the route we are trying to go right now.

Anyway, if memory serves (I haven't done this for a few years), you should be able to create a group within hamacii, and your cousin should be able to join you (this will essentially create a VPN (virtual private network) between you two).
From that point on, you two should be able to just create a game and upon clicking "Join" you would be able to see it.

Do you mean we should be able to start our games, one create a game, and the other join that game? We tried that, with being connected through Hamachi, but it keeps saying "Cannot join the game session".
I read somewhere earlier that we have to both be connected through our modens rather a router. So we have both done that. So we are now using the corrected IPs.
Do you have any idea what might be the problem?

Edit: We have different game versions. So we're guessing this is the cause. I have a 2.0.23037 and he has a 1.0.xxxxx. This is very disappointing.
If he were to use Bootcamp and run windows, would he have to install a windows version of the game? Because I have a 2.0.23035 version also for windows. Would this slight difference also not allow us to play together?

While you two have different versions, you would actually see a version mismatch error, so it's not even getting to that at this point. Are you sure that your firewall isn't blocking Hamachii/BG2?
Yes - bootcamp would require a Windows version of the game.
If I were you, I would try to find the latest patch for the Windows version and the MAC version, and then go down to the oldest patch and see if the version number matches. I'm not making any promises - this is just a guess.
But again, you two aren't even connecting, so that needs to be fixed before we can even start talking about this.
