Unofficial fan-made patches.

Post by Darth Malignus »

I've been looking around the Internet, but I can't seem to find exactly that: A patch that fixes some of the bugs that the official patches missed. Not that I've noticed anything, but you never know, right?

Anyone got a link, mayhaps? I'm not talking about new mods with tons of extra fan-made material, just regular bugfixes, and if it includes the restoration of any cut content that should have been there from the start, all the better, I suppose.

I've had a look around and both the KOTOR1 and KOTOR2 restoration projects died before completion. I think they got seriously over ambitious both with the content they were trying to achieve and with perfection, with the result it dragged on so long most of the original team members gave up and decided to get on with their real lives. All that's left to show it ever actually existed is a plethora of dead links.

The original TSL Restoration Project (or whatever the name was) was apparently abandoned, but someone else continued their work. I can't remember their names, but I saw a page yesterday, where their project which is currently at ver. 1.7 was well underway, apparently. There was an update last month, saying that a new version was soon ready for release. TSLRCM 1.8, if I remember correctly.

I think a group called Jawa started it then gave up, Team Gizka picked it up, and then they gave up on it, all links to both their sites are now dead, so I don't know who is trying to get it done now. Sadly from experience, 'Soon be ready for release' means this year, next year, sometime, never!

Well, as far as I can tell they've already had a ver. 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, and a very small fix after 1.7, so my hopes aren't down. But I was looking for a patch for Kotor 1.

I was talking about both 1 & 2, whilst the trail for 2 still has some trace of warmth so to speak, 1 definitely seems to be dead and buried. Not that I recall any serious bugs with 1 once I installed the official patch, and not much in the way of missing content either. Remember 1 was made by Bioware not the incompetent Obsidian.

I found some K1 restoration mods here, not sure if any of them are any good though. I still haven't found any unofficial patches though

I eventually found v1.6 of the K2 Restoration mod (on the same site linked to above), it seems the two of the original restoration crew decided to bring out their own version after getting frustrated by the machinations and lack of commitment by others. I'm giving it a go now, but have only got part way through Peragus at the moment.

TSLRCM 1.7, did a Light Side run, grand. No real bugs I can think of, and a LOT of new content. The infamous HK-50 Droid Factory HK-47 keepds blathering about, expanded Nar Shaddaa, Dantooine, Telos and so on. A ton of new and interesting conversations with NPC's as well.

It's the same, and yet not. And best of all, a load of bug corrections. As far as I can tell, it's the patch they never got around to at Obsidian.

Ohhh, and the best thing yet, the people have started a thread for bug correction on the "official" forum, where they are active. I wrote some of the stuff I encountered in the game, and the response was "Allright, we'll look at it". Doesn't seem to be a dead restoration team from what I can tell.

Tried 1.6, too many bugs. Installed 1.7, still too many bugs, and different ones as well. Ah well, guess it's time to consign K2 to the rubbish bin again.
