Computer too old?

Post by mewp »

How do I know if I have the speed to run Skyrim? It is so slow. I have plenty of memory but I wonder aboaut speed, it just gets slower and slower so I wiped it out and reinstalled and now it is even slower. Where do I look to find out? I remeber in the old days when you installed a game it told you. NOt now.

It won't tell you. It'll do an automatic diagnostic and set the setting to match the specs of your computer, but that's innacurate. I suggest that you open the game, go to the video settings and set everything to the lowest setting, except keep "actor fade" somewhere in the middle.

Just an FYI if it helps you or anybody else trying to figure out if they can run Skyrim:

My computer is around three years old and has the following specs:
*Intel Core Duo E6850@3.0 GHz
*Windows XP
*8800 GTS card
*1 TB hard drive space
*2 GB working Ram (I actually have more but that is how much XP uses)

I am running Skyrim at mostly High settings at a screen resolution of 1280 by 1024. Under this setup it is as smooth as silk, and looks great. Bethsoft has done an astonishingly good job with their optimisation this time around, unlike previous titles where the minimum posted specs actually resulted in a slideshow, this time they are accurate. I was shocked when I saw well the game ran on my older machine.. and not only that, but it looks good too.
