GoG Version problems

Post by galraen »

It seems the version of the game from Good Old Games isn't compatible with mods unfortunately.

Three times I've installed the game, successfully apparently, patched it but every time when I tried installing mods things went bely up. I either get messages saying various files can't be found or the Dialog.tlk file gets corrupted. I've never had much problem installing mods for over three years with the standard disc installation, only since trying the GOG version.

That's strange. I've got the GOG version of BG and BG2 and I haven't had any issues modding the game. I'm running some 20+ WeiDU mods.
One question, why are you patching the game the GOG version should have the latest patch already?

I couldn't find any info to confirm the GOG version had been patched, so thought it best to make sure. Could that have been the root cause of the problems?

Quite possibly...
I bought a copy of PS:T from GOG and like you, took the extra insurance of patching it. Once I installed a couple of mods I experienced all kinds of issues. As an experiment I uninstalled it, and added the mods without first patching. It has run fine ever since.

Looks like the double patch may have been the problem, although it may have been one of the mods I tried installing.

I managed to locate my disks and installed from those, installed the same mods, all but one without problem. The odd one out was Check the Bodies, which was the first one I tried installin on the GoG installs, even with the disc install that failed, so I guess I''ll just play without it.

I only once before ried CTB and didn't like the Candlekeep slavery, but thought I'd check again with Fast Forward, I guess I'm doomed to never play it.

It is my understanding that the GoG versions all come pre-patched with the latest official release, so my money would be on a double-patch job as well.
I see you got around the issue already, but if you feel like it you could install the GoG version and just install mods without patching first. That should get around any problems you may have had.
