Dual Class or not?

Post by DeeKay »

Well i have a question! I'm currently playing BG2 for the 3rd time. currently my party consist of:

ME : Berserker
Korgan
Viconia
Jan
Edwin
Haer'Dalis

My PC is a level 10 Berserker maybe level 11. Should i stick with the berserker or should i Dual Class to a Cleric or something else?

PS I never dual classed any PC so this would be my first time.

Thanks in Advance

Berserk/Mage imo.
Keep all the scrolls you can find to speed up the process once you'll be mage.

Ok thank you! I just reached level 13, is that a good moment to dual class?

Srry but i just found out that my PC has an intelligence of 9. I guess that could be a problem? Or are there any intelligence boosters?

Nowhere near enough, you need an intelligence of 17 to dual class into a mage. Seventeen wisdom to DC into a cleric and 17 dex to DC into a thief.

Yeah :(

It's a pity, 13 would be exactly the perfect lvl...

You can do a thing:
1) re-create the same char with the right stats
2) export it
3) go in your save folder
4) copy/paste your current save into a new folder, name it "mpsave"
5) open the game and choose multiplayer instead of singleplayer
6) click on Connect and then choose Serial
7) give a name to your mp game session
8) load your save
9) once in game select your char and drop everything he has on the ground
10) click on Character Arbitration, on the left under the Save icon
11) click on modify character
12) remove your char and import your new char
13) use cheats to give it the exp you had before (1250000 a least)
14) pick up the items on the ground
15) have fun with your dual class
16) xD

You can simply use Shadow Keeper ofc, if you know how to do it.

Ok thank you. I was thinking of doing it with Shadowkeeper (first time)
Can you adjust the weapon profincies also?

If so.. In my party what would be most fun to Dual Class?
Ps yesterday i entered the asylum. So Jan is replaced with Imoen.

PS another Question. I'm already thinking of another run trough baldurs gate 2 with a complete different party. Now I'm playing an evil party (mostly). But i want to do a good party. But i already played with Minsc alot and my PC has always been a Fighter type. I never played with Keldron, Valygar, Cernd or Anomen. I also like Haer'Dalis (first time i had him in my party.)

What kind of good party can you recommend without Minsc en without my NPC as a tank?

Jaheira (has good quest line, can tank and offer healing support)

Mazzy Fenton (give her a girdle of Hill Giant Strength and she can tank with the best of them, plus offer archer support)

Nalia, excluding Edwin the most powerful mage available, but needs a lot of item/potion suppost to be an adequate thief[this can be fixed using Shadowkeeper])

Aerie (potentially one of the most powerful NPCs in the game)

Keldorn (if you don't mind tearing him away from his family)

Optionally you could trade Nalia for Imoen, but by the time you reach Imoen you'll be trading down power wise.

If I was to run with that party I'd have a femaleprotagonist to avoid the romances and the inherent conflicts between Jaheira and Aerie.

As the NPCs in that group cover every need, it leaves you free to do what evr you want with the protagonist in terms of race and class.

Analman (as I call him) would be a powerful alternative to Aerie or Jaheira, but I can't stand the jerk!

Valygar is another possibility, if you didn't want to break up Keldorn's family, but he is rather weak.

As for Shadow Keeper, yes you can.
A good do-goody party would be: Aerie, Keldorn, Jan (Imoen later), Anomen, Jaheira and you as a mage multi, dual, sorcerer or whatever you prefer (I'd go for a sorc).

Dual Class to Thief and your character will be crazy strong later on
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Thank you for all your advice. For now (This playthrough) i choose Berserker/Cleric. Nice Kit i must say :D My next play through will be different.

I will probably go for the setup provided by Galraen. I'm still thinking what to do with my main character.

My toughts: Fighter/Mage or Blade or Sorcerer (though i really like an extra tank next to Keldorn and Mazzy) The kits i played so far are Only Fighter subclasses.

PS If i did choose for a Blade, would dual wielding longswords be worth it? (Equaliser, Blackrazor, Daystar, Dragonslayer, blade of the Roses)

I've been thinking on the next run through BG.

I need some weapon help.

I was thinking about the following:

PC: Bard (Blade) Dual Wielding Long Swords ==> Female Half Elf or Human.
Keldorn: 2 Handed Sword (obviously)
Mazzy: Short Swords to begin with... Are there any decent ones?
Nalia: Quarterstaff / Sling
Aerie: Quarterstaff /Sling
Jaheira: Flail, Warhammer + Shield / Spear?

But then again there are also some good maces en axes in the game.

Any idea's?

PS it's SoA+ToB

If I remember correctly Jaheira can't use flails, crazy I know! Spears are good though, especially if you're using the Item Upgrade mod.

There's an excellent short sword for sale at Watcher's Keep.

There are a lot of excellent swords available, but for the off hand you want Belm, for the extra attack.

I'd suggest Aerie would be better off with Flails, Flail of Ages in the main hand, Defender of Easthaven in the off hand, stoneskin + Tensers and some other buffs and she's a killing machine.

Thanks!!

So Jaheira will be wielding either a spear or Dual Wield Hammers? no Shield?
PS Should I let Mazzy get proficies in axe too?

PS are there any mods besides the Item Updgrade Mod i should think about?

With Regards

Always good toi be able to use blunt weapons, but unfortunately she can't use hammers or maces either (yes I know, they really screwed up!), so it's either staff or club. I'd suggest staff as that also makes use of the Two-Hnaded Weapon skill.

DeeKay wrote:PS Should I let Mazzy get proficies in axe too?
Eventually I guess, but finish off shortsword an maybe dual weapon first; don't waste any more slots on short bow. In fact I usually use ShadowKeeper to reassign her skill points. If you want to do that and switch her to a dual wielding axe specialist I wouldn't blame you. In fact I can't think why I haven't done that myself, well, apart from the fact that I usually have Korgan in the party if I have her; the interplay between them is priceless.

There are a couple of stickies on the forum that answer this better than I can at the moment. If you're new to using mods then I'd suggest a cautious approach, the game wasn't designed to be modded, and it's quite easy to screw the game up without realising it. I'd be prepared to bet that everyone who posted in those threads have had to do a complete re-install at least once due to modding the game. Don't let this put you off though, there are some excellent mods out there. The best thieves you can get in my opinion are Fade or Amber. Mods can be found through Pocket Plane.

Thanks for all your responses! Helped me out a lot!
I'll use SK for mazzy to reallocate her shortbow profincies.
Didnt know that Jaheira was so limited in her weapons. but no problem :D I'll go for a nice staff for her.

BTW i've been looking at mods but the only mods that i found interesting so far are:

BG2 Fixpack
Easy Of Use
Dungeon be Gone
and of course Item upgrade Mod.

I also have been looking for custom NPC's for a 3rd try at the game.

Some that caught my eye:

Tyris Flare
Kelsey
Amber
still looking for a cleric of some kind :)
