Questions about experience

Post by NocturneN »

I have some questions about how experience work in BG2:

1. If I have ToB installed, will that allow me to go beyond the experience cap in SoA? I mean, will I be able to earn more than 2950000 xp before I start doing the ToB-specfic quests and areas?

2. How exacly is xp split among party members? Is it a straight 1/6 split, or will party members recieve different amounts based on how much xp they have already accumulated? For example, if I kill a monster that yields 12000xp, is that divided evenly (2000xp each), or is the system more complex?

3. If one character reaches the experience cap, will the xp then be divided amongst the other party members, or will I lose the xp that would've gone to the capped character? For example if I kill a monster that yields 12000xp, while two characters are capped, will the remaining four characters each recieve 3000 xp each or will they only recieve 2000?

Thanks in advance.

Minsc- Pirate Lord? Such a name does not conjure images of righteous behavior. Stand still a moment and let Boo have a look at you.

1. Yes, yes. xp cap in soa with tob installed is 8000000 xp. You get HLA too.

2.2000. Its a straight 1/members split, then 1/class split, so multiclasses would only get 1k(667) in each class. Since casters power directly correlates with levels it makes characters like Aerie very weak once approaching higher levels if not feeding them exorbitant xp amounts. Druids get around that with their non linear spellslot progression.

3. uh, thats really a highly speculative situation, it would be 2000 with 95% certainly, but havent tested. There is enough exp in the game to make everyone cap ( my last full party ended soa with about 4.5kk xp, w/o visiting tob shared areas.)

Well, you know my situation already from the other thread; I intend to swap out Nalia and Jaheria after getting back to Athkatla. Do you think the new characters I'll take will be hopelessly behind in xp? These characters (leaning on taking Keldorn and Aerie) have already been in my party, so I don't think they'll recieve any extra xp, as if they had just spawned.

Keldorn would care zero. But Aerie needs every bit of exp. Even pure mages dont cap @ToBcap. and Aerie has halved progression.
