After you learn UAI, you can use swords and backstab with them (the ones that a thief without UAI could use) but will never be able to put proficiency points in them.
“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Hmm are there any good swords worth losing the thaco over as compared to a staff? Or alternatively any good shields?
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
In my opinion, no. By the time you get UAI you'll be at least two-thirds to three quarters of the way through SoA, by then you will have picked up staves that make having even the best sword not worth it. If you want to use a shield, and there are some good ones, then take Flail and clubs. There's a couple particularly good flails available in SoA, and one or two clubs, especially if you install the Item Upgrade mod, which I recommend you do, There are some good shields available too, yet again, especially with the item upgrade mod.Claudius wrote:Hmm are there any good swords worth losing the thaco over as compared to a staff? I've just reached the mines on my run through with a Cleric/Assassin, party at the moment is:
Imoen - still a thief, specialising in pick pocket, up to 125 already
Kagain - I changed him into a berserker
Branwen
Minsc - He's nwo what he should have been from the start, a Barbarian
Dynaheir - Made her a sorcerer.
The party is average 4th level.

The best possible backstabbing weapon you can get in both BG1 and BG2 is a staff. The only reason to use swords is to boost your attack speed by two (or four if using Improved Haste). Well, other than that, you want to have the items equiped just for their active abilities, such as the Mirror Image active of Ilbratha +1.
Until then, you should be better than okay with flails (best offensive and defensive choice for a single handed weapon in my opinion).

Are you serious?Claudius wrote:Wouldn't they be much better than Viconia at least?
Clericwise she beats every other cleric even a PC cleric out of the water.
19 Dex, 65% MR and 18 Wisdom for 6 more spells and in case you get +1 Wisdom from the Ioun Stone even precious level 5 Spell.
Str and Con can easily be gotten with items, potions or spells.
Or just utilize her as ranged combatant and don't mind her Str and Con unless you use a particular sling which adds str bonus to damage.
With Shield of Reflection and some MR items she is practically invulnerable to ranged combat.
Is there any way to make the cleric/thief have 2 weapon slots?

Not as far as I know. I tried everything I could think of but with no success. If anyone can point out a way of doing it I'd be very interested.

Tobex has an option to give every class 4 weapon slots in inventory screen. Having more weapon quickslots however is, i heard, impossible because the interface is hardcoded. Or wait 3 days for BG:ee, where it is moddable.
Cleric/rogue .. suffers from being a second choice for everything. There are better rogue multiclasses and there are better cleric multiclasses. there is also virtually no synergy here. About the olny thing is Sanctuary+stealing, interesting for utility, but pointless for combat. These classes work just as well separated. I can see it working with mage gear(Vecna etc), once the rogue gets UAI, but it would be a horrible waste. AoF+Jans Armor+DoE=70% damage reduction btw.(or something) If they could get Hardiness, they would be the ultimate tanks.

I originally wanted this mix because I thought "a party needs 1 rogue and 1 cleric". So with that in mind I would fulfill that in just one character and open 5 party slots for other people. But now that I look at it I will just take Viconia and Jan who are pretty awesome and then make the pc something different. I haven't decided what to make the pc though. I think fighter/thief multi might be fun in BG1 and 2 I'll still be good to go. I don't have tutu or at least it doesn't run.
I'm going to try BG:ee but I want to see if it's any good and/or if it is a totally different game or just a polishing like Witcher:ee. I imagine it's just a polishing in which case I will switch over good.
