I just bought VtMB and VtMR and tried loading VtMB today. It loaded fine and i added the official patch and the unofficial 6.6 patch. but it wont load and run.
I get a black screen and then a bug report and shutdown:
vampire caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module vampire.exe at 001b:00000000.
I have a AMD 3400 system 2.6 Ghz, running XP Pro and I may have too much RAM, i have 3 GB to get some of the older games to run ok, and to handle newer ones. I have an FX 7600GT card. I saw many many posts about this kind of error on the net, and found this forum here and was hopeful of help if possible. Any advice would be very welcome. Is there any work around for this? I have an older system also XP but older Vid card and much less RAM, ...is that the only solution? thanks in advance for any help.
UPDATE:I was able to fix this problem, see my post below. There is hope if you have this error, you will just have to do some research.

It looks like your executable is bad, or another file that loads from your executable is. Try uninstalling, then reinstalling.

Hmm.. I don't think so. Just throwing that complete error message through Google yields 200+ results, so it seems more recurring than a random writing error. It's a matter at looking at every one of them and see if someone found a fix.

Checking the RAM issue is probably the easiest thing you can do, assuming you have multiple RAM strips in your mainboard. Turn off the computer, power it down (with an extra button on the back side or by completely unplugging the computer), then you can lift one of the strips out of it's socket. Won't affect your computer after booting it up, just add it back once you're done testing things. Look for a guide to do it properly though; while it is easy to do, you don't want wanton static or a misplaced screwdriver to damage the main board. Not that I actually think you'll need a screwdriver..

I was able to fix the issue and load and play successfully. I am not sure excatly what the problem is, but many are having it too. The solution seems to be if you own the game to make a duplicate copy all the files from the BIN folder in the Vampire game install into the main game install directory, that seems to take care of some of the problems and also makng sure your python registry has a complete entry for the game install. One problem i had was teh MS32.dll not showing in the main game directory, even tho it WAS there in the BIN folder. so it looks like the game engine needed better access to those files.
I was glad to be able to fix this problem which many others have had too. the game looks great.
