Best Tank?
Best Tank?
I just wanted to see what are the ppl's opinions on who is the best tank in SoA/ToB.
Here's a list of potential good tanks:
Minsc
Mazzy
Valygar
Anomen
Keldorn
Korgan
Jaheira (?)
Cernd (!!! haha)
and of course, Sarevok!!
IMO, Sarevok takes the lead.. but what does everyone else think? And how about the others (ie. who's 2nd, etc)?? And why did you choose them?
NOTE: I'm sure I left out some tank's name.. but anywayz..

Ironically enough, IMHO, the best tank is the most annoying one. Anomen, with the right equipment, becomes so versatile it is amazing. Excellent summoning and defensive spell powers. Solid HPs. Low AC. Deals out good damage. He doesn't really have any visible weaknesses until he opens his mouth. I know most will disagree but I think he's the best. Now, if you want to get into favorite tank, I'll take Sarevok.
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.

HEY! What about Haer'Dalis??!!??
Ha Ha just kidding. I never personally use him, I just steal his swords... But it has been pointed out quite emphatically that Bards can tank.
I personally have to go with Korgan. He has a great personality and his Berserker rage is very, very handy...He takes a licking and keeps on killing like a good tank should! I think also that the setup of the game favors him - he specializes in the most powerful weapon, crom faer, one of the most efficient weapons (axe - it is ranged and melee w/ same proficiency) and he is also only NPC that can use the Dwarven Thrower. These are factors in the game that favor him. A lot of the other tanks have specialties in 2 handed weapon, but he uses powerful one handers.

Best tank? Too relative question.Originally posted by THE JAKER:

For example about Haer Dalis, one of my groups was a Sorcerer(Me) and him. I can assure you he *is* a TANK(maybe better than all others), in my case Haer Dalis walk around with -21 AC, Ring of Gaxx, Helm of balduran, bladesinger chain, Crom feyer, CFury, FoAges, SSoMask, and others; with also mirror image, blur, protection from magic weapons, stoneskin, imrpoved haste; and ofensive/defensive spin he is a formidable tank far better than most of the list.

There is no doubt he can get very low AC but his saving throws are the same as any rogue class. Ring of gaxx, helm of balduran and such items is pretty helpful there though (equipping them on a fighter with already decent saving throws is even better).Originally posted by Ivan Cavallazzi:

The poor guy got disintegrated once by Tanova so I was pretty wary of sending him to tank against spellcasters/beholders with dispel/remove magic. Against meelee guys, no problem.
Life is an adventure
I know his savings are not high. But what I like in Haer, he can disable everything, with the correct strat, remember he can acess every magic scroll, items of the game. About the savings, just protect him with spell protections and it will be ok.(or use the lilarcor or psionblade) the possiblities are infinite.

But korgan(and all others Tanks) in a full observation is far more vulnerable than Dalis, thats is why I say it is too relative , all depends on how deep you go on the chaeacter possibilities, and about possibilities Haer is unbetable the most versatile. This fact is also why I think the Byoware pro are not too good in balance question.

Sarevok.
Deathbringer Assault, would put anything away quickly enough.
IMO, only Korgan stands a chance using his axe of the unyielding.
This is assuming you're expanding them the way the designers intended. Sarevok with swords and halberds. Korgan with axes and hammers, etc.

Death comes for you .... FEEL IT'S ICY BREATH !
I have to vote for Harry as well. Although I've never used him, he does look great on paper with Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Spin and Tenser's.
If she could get past her 1 attack per round, I'd vote for Aerie.

I think that the best tank must be Haer'Dalis, this is because if he had all the right items like the ring of free action so he can move and attack when in Defensive Spin. This alread gives him all the AC he needs and equip him with the right weapons and spells and he is the best all rounded tank you can get.
But this all depends on how you set your team up, as my best tank on my team is Sarevok because Haer'Dalis is my support fighter for Sarevok.

I suspect Viconia. Yep, I always run magic heavy parties, so I've come up with ways to make magic user fighters or clerics into decent killing machines, and I suspect viccy with gorgon plate, helm of defense, ring of fire control, ring of fire resistance, belt of frost giant, amulet of 10% magic resistance, decent mace and good shield will be an unstoppable killing machine.
first, her native drow magic resistance plus the amulet will put her into 60%.
second her fire resistance will be over 100%, so she's heal in a incindeary cloud. as for the killing part, just two words....
aura of flaming death
globe of blades.
trigger those two spells, and have her attack a group of vampires. Savorok will just clean up a few survivors.
Magic users make the best tanks, and the clerics are great.

Yep, you sure can edit your post, and it's quite handy. Does it qualify as cheesy, though?
One tactic would be to post something that is in error, then wait til some nitpicker corrects you, go back and edit your post, and then post - "What are you talking about - why don't you take another look?" Makes them look dumb!
Strange thread we have here, BTW, it seems like the overwhelming votes are for Haer'Dalis, with votes for Aerie, Anomen, and Viconia, and then the trad fighter winners Korgan, followed by Sarevok. Quite an unexpected result.
I wonder if some of these contrarian, nontraditional tanks hold up at the end of a long day, though? See, I voted for Korgan, and I stand by that...He's just as fresh at the end of the dungeon as he was at the beginning (which is NOT that fresh - Dwarves lag behind in Deodorant technology FYI), and he can tank for 30 game hours straight. Yon bards and wimp cleric/mages have got to run out of Blurs eventually!
