Is there any reason to keep keys with you if you have used them? Prison keys, Gaal's key etc.. I wonder if I will need them further in the game, or are doors opened with those key open for ever?
What if I drop items on the floor in some safe place, will they be on the ground forever or do they disappear?

To clarify some of what Stilgar said, most items that have a specific use (like the aforementioned Gall's Key) can be chucked once you have used them. If you are uncertain that you have used an item, then you can "place" it in any container virtually anywhere in the game world and it will be there when you come back. If you simply drop an item on the ground, it will "decay" after a set amount of time. Quest required items are supposed to be immune from this effect, but I've seen enough "HELP" posts that cover lost items that I wouldn't suggest just dropping anything except basic equipment anywhere.
Clarifying a clarification,
'Virtually anywhere' is misleading. SOME areas reset after you perform an action. These resets are one way you can lose required quest items. Examples include Nalia's Keep, and the shadow theives guild.
Walkeens Promenade is a good one for not reseting and After the slavers I use the Copper Coronet(although it is more auto saves than outside). In general throwing stuff away is a pretty good startegy. Being a pack rat is a way of life however. - Curdis
