Good morning!

Oh well, familiar members of the board will now close ears for my Aerie rant...

she is by far the best spell caster in the game...though lawful goody goody, she is one heck of an investment. once you get her high enough, she can chain and trigger holy spells, making her incredable as a demon slayer and undead whomper.

now jaheira is great too...I see you take the good part fairly seriously, or is it the neutral part? Alignment has very little to do with party composition, I have aerie, jaheira, korgan jan and immy in my party, and I play a sorc. korgy says some pretty rauchy things to aerie and make her blush and stammer, and this keeps the party lively and interesting. the best fighter in the npc pool is evil, and the best cheese tech thief in the game is jan, that annoying turnip sucker. I have played out all good parties except with jaheira, never dump her...and the all good parties really stink. not very interesting, and even tho my rep was 20 the whole time, a little grumbling from jaheira was ok.

I am thinking of playing neutral cahotic or lawful next time, as for a mage and sorc, the real deciding factor in alignment is

I kinda want the cat. I also have a real issue with the really awful looking angelic planetars, but will probably still get them anyway. sigh. think friendly fire and holy smite and holy word spells from your clerics...bad juju when your summoned planetar turns hostile.

may I ask a favor?

General is using my "faster than chikitta fastpaws" signature with my blessing, so i think I should get a new one. your french version is recognizable enough to be still funny, and as her most diehard supporter in this forum, I should have a saying from her.

pls don't take offense, but I think by "loyal" you mean lawful, not a thief thingie at all....kinda funny immie is lawful good....

actually, are you a pure thief or kit or multi? I know you're an elf so dual is out, but the kits and multi really rock as power classes. do you have tob installed? Assassin dual to fighter comes to mind, and when you get jan up high enough levels his combo of spells and spiketraps become pretty devistating.

Then why didn't you go with Nalia? Wouldn't you, being good and all, help other good characters with their problems?

Well, loyal good characters believe in regulation by law. That doesn't mean they can't cooperate with thieves. Neither Aerie, Keldorn or Sir Anomen will complain if you steal a bit as long as your rep stays alright. And do not forget that you don't have to steal with your thief. Why would a lawful good character object if you find and disarm traps or open doors and chests in ennemy territory?

Don't be afraid of mixing the alignement in your party - it makes for interesting dialogues between the NPCs. I also think it makes sense roleplaying-wise: A good NPC would prefer to keep an eye on evil NPCs and make them work for good causes. An evil NPC on the other hand, would like to use good NPCs in order to augment his own power (for example by doing quests), taking advantage of their good reputation and thereby being able to work undisturbed. Or why not stay with them just for spying?

but really, aerie does not make too much sense in my latest party, with me, sorc and jaheira, jan and korgy. I really need a cleric with high wisdom and aerie is very fragile, unlike viccy who can wear good armor....

stoneskin makes all the diff in the world! So does belt of fortitude. give her ogre power gloves and crom later, she's ok. still not great wisdom, might hack in or go the watchers keep to raise early in the game.

Evil Npcs are the fun people in this game. they are fun and funny to party with. and edwin....even tho I always play head spellcaster in my party, I want to take him along to hear him pick on aerie or jan, orjan pick on edwin. and I've heard his quest is just too funny!!!!

Yorleen, may I advise edwin as your primary mage? Just don't have minsc in the party, and don't have too high a rep, and he will be great! and funny too....
maybe next time I'll play a fighter cleric or soemthing like that and take edwin and aeerie along for fun...nahhh

I like being the nastiest spell slinger this side of the city of coins, with dragons and demi liches (solo kills) on my stats.

as you've already figured out by now, I love magic and all it can do.

Hmm, yeah, you're all right actually: this is way funnier when the different members of the group are arguing sometimes !

Hehe, Jaheira and Dals, though they are both neutral are already "great pals" ! *lol* Ah, well, sounds like Jaheira didn't really like Dals' joke about selling her at the Adventurer Market !

Anyway, actually I forgot to mention I have a very top necromancer girl with me called Leinar. I created her for BG1 and kept her with me for BG2. As I had used the experience unlocker thingy for BG1, she started BG2 a little bit stronger she was supposed to be... Hmm, well, nope actually because if I had had Tales of the Swordcoast, I think she would have got that strong. Only this add-on never worked and after I had tried to install it, I had to restart BG1 from the beginning because it had totally ****ed the game !

Basically, I was playing BG1 with Yorleen as a thief/fighter but when I had to restart from the beginning, I created another character, a paladin girl called Kendra. Okey, she had to be Loyal Good but she was more of a neutral good as her strengh allowed her to act as a thief by opening chest and her "lil sister" helping. And it was cool to have such a strong character because with an armour class of -5, she was almost untouchable by most ennemies...

But nevertheless, I missed Yorleen and I just felt Kendra wasn't BG's heroine... So I restart BG2 by recreating Yorleen so she was less strong than she would have been if I had used her for BG1.

Actually, once I'll have finished BG2 with her as a "bretteur" thief (dunno what bretteur is in English), I'll restart everything from the beginning (that is to say from BG1) with her as a thief/sorceress and in the English version !

Anyway, gotta go now. See ya all !

PS: Aerie French voice is very cool by the way, as well as Jan's ! I liked the turnip seller because he was so funny but he wasn't very useful in my team so I recently leave him and took Anomen as I said.

As for Nalia, I'm going to join her in her fight as soon as possible but I have to check something with my Thief Guild out first...

Welcome to the board, Yorleen. You say Jan Jansen is useless? Hmm, have to disagree with that. He is the BEST thief in the game and a mediocre spellcaster too. Though Anomen is very useful and effective too, I recommend you ditch someone else than Jan...and added to that, Jan and Ano have hilarious conversations!

As some of you might know, I agree with Astafas as Sir Anomen being one of the best NPCs in the game. On top of that, I also like his personality very much. As I like all the other noble, brave chars(basically, good chars

) like Keldorn and Valygar. Mazzy is not my favorite though. Other than that, I just love to have knights in my party, makes me really feel so very righteous.

Minsc, of course, is a must for a good party. In my opinion.

I hold Jan as the most useful NPC in the whole game, probably with Sir Anomen as a close second (how I love to blow up vampires - nothing beats it!). However, with a PC thief you could very well do without Jan. On the other hand, Jan is incredibly funny (especially with Anomen or Minsc in the party) and he should be played with at least once.

Well, actually, as you said, it's because I'm a thief that I don't really need Jan in my team but I have to confess I miss his stupid stories !

As for Anomen, now I've taken him in my team, I can tell you I won't let him go !! Not because I finally fell in love for him, I didn't ! *lol* But because he has very interesting spells + his ability to repulse and even kill... how do you say in English ?... "alive deads ones" ? And finally, I also like he's personality. He's very frank and says exactly what is on his mind and to me, it's a great quality.

As for Minsc, I won't let him go neither because Bouh and him are just funny and well, he's very useful to my team with his silly talking sword Lilarcor !

But anyway, my team will never be really constant, dunno how to say. I mean I'll probably have to change members several time. It's good to evolve after all !

Yes, Anomen is great. The expression you're looking for is "to turn undead".

Lots of people play with a party of five and then changes the sixth one in order to complete all personal quests. I prefer to use my six party members from start.

It's funny about Haer-dalis not romancing a female pc considering he hits on every other girl in the group - what a dog!

When I first got BGII I was playing with a female PC and it creeped me out so much when Anomen started hitting on me that I stopped the game and started over with a male PC.

I think Haer-dalis would appeal to the French sensibility because he is poetic and nihilistic - he has a great poem for Edwina. I think he's ugly, though. I think the artist they had drawing the portraits has some weird chin thing going on - I can bearly stand to look at the portraits of HD and Yoshimo. My favorite male portrait is Korgan - well I just love him in general. The full beard means the artist did not have to draw a chin! My favorite female portrait is Imoen, but I also like Nalia, I liked Imoen in Baldurs Gate 1 better, though - she seems to have gotten younger and lost weight in the second game. The first Imoen looks exactly like a friend of mine.

One thing that must be asked....is Nalia as whiney and annoying "For the needy!" in the French version? People think Aerie is bad, Aerie has *nothing* on Nalia.....

Jaheira, close to being the best NPC in the game. Ironskins alone makes her worth it. She can tank, she can heal and she can cast offensive spells (Insect Plague!). It doesn't get much better than this

Anomen is okay, kinda on and off if u ask me sometimes he gets mean and blames stuff on you for no reason but later apologises(is that how you spell it?). I almost got rid of him for that but he's an awesome fighter/cleric so I kept him. Actually, once things settle with him and he stops trying to impress you with his "cute" little stories he becomes more tolerable... I don't mind him anymore.
I finished SoA lately and now am starting another game and I would like to have a diffrent person to romance but there isn't... thats the only thing... So yeah final thoughts on Anomen, he isn't that bad but trust me he can piss you off like no other!

(espacially before the entire thing with his dead sister settles).

Yorleen, i'm a theif(Swashbuckler) in my game and besides a few meaningless comments from Anomen about how he dislikes theives he seems to be okay with it. Besides the comments he makes are harmless to your "romance".

All of the multis, not dual are awesome beyond compare. two sets of picks to choose from makes them infinately customizable....

jaheira can go either warrior wench or spell caster floozy.

if you go warrior, as I am likely to, pick greater elemental transform, after all important greater elemental summon, but its a spell so you need only pick once, and you have it!

Cha-ching!

and whirlwind. don't forget aura of flaming death and globe of blades for even greater lethality....

then since each elemental transform is a ability, rather than a spell, stack up. by the time you reach the cap, she can turn many times in a day to greater eath elemental, or greater fire elemental, kick in greater whirlwind and watch monster kibble. or give her belm in off hand, spectral brand in other, ironskin and other defense chants or what not, turn on globe of blades and aura, and watch her munch thru hordes of lesser monsters.

get her all the good cleric spells, and with harper call and mass raise dead she is at least half a cleric. she can't chain implosions like aerie, but say your party is taking a major beating, I think mass raise dead will restore all hit points to every one simultaneousl. will have to test, but a rod of ressurection does that to a live npc, so this should work the same way. no holy smites, but creeping doom is even better. and I can't say enough about natures beauty...better than glitterdust! Mass power word blindess is too cool...you can have wittle jan make a dragon kill on his stats using that spell, with a little dagger +1!!!!

she is either supreme spell casters disrupter, or a damned fine tank either way. and best of all, she can get you the second or only ring of wizardry! You need herif you don't play mage or sorc. and she keeps me grounded and centered on things, with warnings about bad actions so I don't get side tracked.

And as for sir anomen, I've dumped all the goody goody chars out of my party, except for aerie, and she is someone I protect anyway, becasue I am turning tword true neutral from chaotic good.

Korgan is more useful, soul reaver!!!!! Best two handed sword in the game excepting holy avenger, and wittle jan will wield holy avenger later after use any item, with human skin armor for increased magic resistance.

Ick, what a disgusting image! oh well, I've turned keldy out after finishing soa with him, hes too annoying to stand after a while. too much like sunday school, and too stiff...

minsc is fun and a cool guy to have, but too much of a liability as my ONLY tank. for that I need saverok, or korgy. and korgy is better, because saverok is too damned vulnerable to charm based spells. Korgy is not, he's just great and I plan on getting him abilitys in two handed weps as well as axe and hammer.

and you have to admire his outlook on life as a freebooter.

he's done it all, and as my char can wipe his butt off the floor in 10 seconds flat, he sure respects me.

anomen is really a cleric, and has to be considered a cleric. he's dualed at lev 9 or so, right? so he has no real fighter perks as a low level dual, no whirlwinds and so forth, and as a cleric viccy is better, higher wisdom, and aerie is better, spell triggers.

this makes him poor match for power gaming. I do plan to make a special trip to copper coronet to turn him into a squirrel.....

User Unfriendly you should talk with one of my friends you guys would get along just fine. He loves Jaheira ,sometimes I wonder why he dosen't have a pic of her with him all the time...

But seriously, I see ur point but I prefer single classed characters althought I would NEVER make up a party with only single classed NPC's. I beleive in a balance with a bit of everything according to your personal strategies as a player.
Actually Anomen is a great fighter/cleric, not the best of the game but as a girl I wanted to try the romance thing and I don't have much choice as you already know. I finished the game with him and with his cleric spells if you know how to use them right he can be quite usefull (I mean I had to find something for him to do during the game)

I'm not seriously into jaheira, but what i basically am is a cheater....I enjoy squeezing the maximum hacks and cheese within the structure of a game, to get effects and abilities not granted or inteded by the designers....

for example, I was one of the first people ever to start hacking into deus ex new wepons and abilities once ion storm released the sk pack for the public. so the reason I like jaheira and jan is because they have some rather EVIL potentials.

and no, I have no problems with confusing rpgs with real life. I don't need a witch doctor or head shrinker...oh crap, I am a witch doctor or headshrinker!

Got a degree in psych, was going to hang up my shingle as a therepist, got sidetacked into computers, and much happier since.

sigh.

Ah! I see, hmmm, you and I have very diffrent concepts of how to play BG... I play more for the roleplay aspect of the game than the stats...

How could you think I am a person who confuses reality with life???!!!??? I admit right now my romantic life is non existant, but unlike a lot of people on this board, giggle, I actually have a good excuse. Brain surgery has laid me off work for about another year or so, cause my tumor, which was removed, and I am doing well post operatively, has affected my sight. I can't drive or work for a while yet, and this really ticks me off becasue befoer I had all this crap happen I was going to buy a new car this year.

so LURKING around this forum and playing games is what keeps me from going nuts. I hate it. I miss working. I was pulling around 50 k a year, so I was doing fine, and had much money for toys. I was going to get a bmw z3 this year too, damn it!

oh well, at least I came out of that operating room alive, and I have no gigantic med bills...

gotta count my blessings.

oh, and for the real kick in the pants this year, my birthday is sept 11!!!!!

does that suck or what!

sorry about my rant. I was thinking about some stuff and got sad.

Being on this forum helps keep me sane. though the 56k analog line is pathetic....I miss frame relay!!!!

The good news is, tho, I am on full disability and I think I can go back to work in about a year from now, and I have a chance to get some studying done.
