When to duel to mage?

If I only want my mage to reach level 27 mage, as this is when Mages stop gaining spell slots, and all level 10 spells have been learned. When should I duel my kenzi? I worked out level 14 but I wanted to double check.

Oh no I was wrong its level 13. Also form other things I have read I think thats right. Also its level 28 I want to reach I think.

But if you wait 'till level 13, you get the last weapon proficiency -- 3 stars in weapon style, 5 in chosen weapon.

Waiting for 13 means having to go through one more Fighter level (to get there) and one more Mage level (to regain it). No walk in the park, but a low price for an extra 1/2 attack, -1 THAC0, 2 Hit Points and 1 proficiency slot.
