Watcher's Keep question regarding colored globes - spoilers

Post by THE JAKER »

I have a question regarding level five - there is the room to the upper west side where you push buttons and get colored globes, with monsters spawning each time. It seems that you can push each button 4 times, with more difficult fights each time(I especially like the hive mother, death tyrant and elder orb one  ). After you use one of each color globe to get the key, you have 3 each of the red, purple, blue and green globes, which can be equipped as quick items and used.

Now I believe that the red globes are a "heal" spell, and the green ones summon a shambling mound, and the purple ones are just a regular invisibility spell. Is this right? and what do the blue ones do? I couldn't figure it out.

Well my red one shot a fire ball the blue one was a non fatuige restoration and the green one created a cloud kill so they may be random spell effects.

Hi all,

@Jaker: after reading your post - and as I was on my way to the sphere machine - I fooled around with spheres as I got them.

I didn't get a cloudkill though??

Anyway, the results are as follows:

Red 1 - Fireball
Red 2 - Heal
Red 3 - Good Luck (temporary +1 to saves for each member of the party)
Red 4 - No function

Blue 1 - Cone of Cold
Blue 2 - Greater Restoration
Blue 3 - No function
Blue 4 - Protection from Normal Missles

Purple 1 - Cloud Giant Strength (STR 23 on caster)
Purple 2 - Invisibility
Purple 3 - No function
Purple 4 - Mass Cure

Green 1 - No function
Green 2 - Melf's Acid Arrow
Green 3 - Temporary +5% magic resistance on caster
Green 4 - Summon Shambling Mound (under your control)

The "No function" spheres are of course used to activate the machine to get the key.

Hope it helps!

Several party members were harmed during the making of this list...

Wow, Thunder! Thanks a lot for the information! Nice to see some real scientific research going on :D Boy, some of those fights get a little dicey, don't they? I think the best is the 3 beholders.
the 2 liches one and the three vampires are fun too.

Well, I am studying hard sciences so I am acquinted with the scientific method :D

Yep, some of those battles are pretty hairy! The beholder battle was very nice. The lich battle was funny, because I have three clerics (well, okay maybe not all clerics: Aerie, Anomen and myself, a Cavalier). Turn undead --> disrupted liches

BTW, I tried your triple-whammy battle around the seal. My god, that was that was epic! It helps having three front-liners with normal and greater whirlwind!

Demogorgon was fun too, especially since I killed those annoying Mariliths first... And was suddenly kneep-deep demons!

But I'm looking forward to the improved Yaga-Shura and Abazigal. Especially Yaga-Shura, I was somewhat disappointed by the extent of his army, so I hope that's been improved.
