first timer to bg1 (to any rpg) and enjoying v. much. just exited Nashkel mines.
Is there anyway to tell how many charges an item has. Ideally it would say #of charges left. Is there a webpage available that lists magic items and typical # of charges?
I was bummed when Imoen's magic missle wand ran out. And yes I tried to cheat and give myself a wand. But it only has one charge. I tried the trick of selling the 'cheat' wand back to store and then buying it back but it still only had one charge? Anybody know why this is?
tfeld (aka Denarth, that is until gamebanshee tossed my screen name. what's up with that??)

Well IIRC the no. of charges are shown when the wand is in the quick item slot.
No. of charges is a bit random. Earlier in the game you won't find many wands but as it progresses you'll get some nice ones.

Unfortunately, BG1 doesn't show you the charges on your wands. In general, wands you find have 1-10 charges, and merchants will usually put ~25 charges on them if you sell and then buy them back. One notable exception is the proprietor of the Friendly Arm Inn, who will put 50 charges on your wands. If you want to know the exact number of charges, you'll have to use something like GateKeeper to look at your savegames.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...
What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Actually there is a way to find out about the # of charges in magic items within the game.
When at a shop just look at the price the shopkeeper would pay for the staff/wand. The price is totally based upon the # of charges. In my experience Magic Missile Wands would get me 10 gold per charge, so if a merchant offered me 50 gold for a wand it had 5 charges.
My costchart (per charge):
Magic Missile 10
Fear 20
Frost 30
Para 25
Fire 44
Monster Summon 100
Lightning 40
Wand of Heavens 30
I'm not sure if these values are shopkeeper, Charisma, Reputation dependent, so take them with a GRAIN of salt.
Other (easier) way to check the charges is to save and then unload the wand counting down as ya go!
Hope that helped!

yes it helps , thank you to all. Has anyone tried giving themselves a "cheat" missle wand to see if you can sell and rebuy and have 10 charges on it. My experience is that it comes in with one charge, and when I tried the sell-buybback trick it still only had one charge. Maybe I didn't give enough time between selling and buying back.
