deck of many things

Post by Denise »

Hi. I got the deck and know how the whole thing is supposed to work. I took a bad card the first time, then second draw took the 30,000 exp. Okay, but now I guess my question is did I screw this up somehow because I just cannot seem to draw the Throne card to get the 1,000,000 exp!!!! I have reloaded so many times, I mean this has been going on 3 days now! Can anyone tell me how long it took them to draw this card, or if I did screw this up, so I can stop trying or something? Thanks alot!

I wouldn't have a clue how you will get the card, but have you try spells like luck, bless, chant?

I reckon if you were to spend the last 3 days killing other baddies and solving quest, you would have got more than a million exp.

If you want experience, then it is easy, but if want the card, then keep trying! :D

I have the down loaded faq,

Deck of Many Things FAQ v1.1
by Setsuna

but not the link...do a yahoo search, sorry. but his is the raw deal..if you whacked the demon to get the deck, to get the best result hope for "ruin", lose all gold in first draw. then and only then can you get star, +1 to primary attribute, the best draw in the deck, I use this to get jahira +1 to wisodom, more spells, yeah!!!
and only if the first draw is a "bad" card, the other bad card is much worse, believe me, can you get star and throne on third draw.

From memory

I wanted the ring of Protection +3 and the exp.
I think you have to draw 3 good cards in a row,
save BEFORE you draw the first card, and keep saving in another name after every card.....
Just keep trying it didn't take me long
Also look at gamebanshee/baldursgateii i believe the have a complete card list there!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

stilgar, to get the ring of protection, key in second draw you need to draw a good card in the first draw.

its not such a good item, you get as good effects with magic resist bonused from hell and so forth, and my pc sorc needs fingers for gax and ring of wiz....

oh well,

here is the faq patial copy by setsuna...
The Second Encounter

Here's how the deck as an item works. *'ed cards are considered Bad Draws. The previous draw affects the subsequent draw. Note that some of the other draws can be pretty bad too, but they're not considered BAD in terms of subsequent drawing. Once you have drawn a BAD card, you will have to continue using the BAD draw list. This means that if you draw a good, then bad card, your third draw will be from the bad list.

First draw (random):
-Donjon* (Imprison user, save at -4)
-Ruin* (Party loses all gold)
-Euryale (permanent -1 to all saves, no save. ha ha.)
-Flames (Gate in a Balor and 4 fire elementals to play with)
-Gem (Get a rogue stone, king's tear, sapphire, diamond, ruby and emerald)
-Jester (User gets 50,000 exp)

Second Draw (if first draw was a BAD card):

-Void* (Disintegrates user, save at -4)
-Key (Get a powerful magic item, I think it's a ring of protection +3)
-Star (Get +1 to one stat, depending on class (fight/barb/pal/ranger str, mage/sorc int, thief/bard dex, monk/cleric/druid wis)
-Rogue (User is dire charmed and attacks the party until dead. Cannot be dispelled, so kill the person and raise him/her)
-Sun (party gains 300,000 exp)
-Vizier (User gets a mantle spell that lasts 24 hours)

Second Draw (if first draw was a NOT a BAD card):

-Void* (see above)
-Magician* (user turned into a rabbit. Cure with remove curse)
-Knight (summons 4 demon knights to duke it out. They do not drop equipment once killed)
-Rogue (see above)
-Sun (see above)
-Vizier (see above)

Third Draw (no BAD cards yet). Note that this is the final draw you can pull.

-Skull (Gates in a Death Shade to play with. He attacks with +5 weapons, dispels magic with each hit, 100% magic resist, resists most attacks, sees invisible and attacks fast. Only tries to kill the user, and once the user is dead, leaves)
-Moon (+10 hp permanently)
-Talons (user permanently blinded until remove curse is cast)
-Fool (user's Wisdom lowered to 3 + confusion (no save). remove curse to restore wisdom, dispel to fix the confusion)
-Comet (5% fire resist permanently)
-Erinyes (+1 to all stats for 24 hours, also called the Fates)

Third Draw (Bad card happened sometime along the way)

-Skull (see above)
-Throne (party gains 1,000,000 exp)
-Moon (see above)
-Fool (see above)

My advise (as I posted on the alternate ToB version) is to go for Donjon, (save), then Key or star (I went for star) and then Throne. (1,000,000 XP is just to much to pass on)

no idea, for my party the best is wis for clerics, since it actually gives them extra spells...dont let mage use it, as int increase will not give you extra spells...make sure jahirea draws cards, as aeire will have int increase, viccy is also fine.

monk as fighte rsubkit shoud have str increase...

this is incorrect. My swashbuckler had 19 in dex and strength, and got to 20 in strength, not dex.
