no gandalf was more powerful then saruman.
Gandalf vs. Elminister. Gandalf would win. He is more powerful and just being called the white sends most people running in fear.
Aragorn vs. Drizzt. This would be slightly closer, but Aragron would win. Both are skilled swordsman but Aragorn has all that pride and power as king.
BTW Sauron was just a servant of Morgoth and was no where close to what that guy could do.
In the Hobbit the all the dwarves and a halfling are captured by 3 trolls. Gandalf easily killed them, but Drizzt could kiil 10 of them. In LoTR none of the hobbits are trained adventures. They're probably around lv. 3.

too boring. it does not "flow and go on" like Salvatore.

ThorinOakensfield, you are wrong, Saruman was indeed stronger than Gandalf, in power. But Gandalf was more charismatic, and had that elven ring. After all, Saruman was the leader of the 5 istari.
Saruman imprisoned Gandalf at one point, remember?
Aragorn VS drizzt?
Aragorn was a great ranger, and without drizzts magic stuff wouldkill him easily.. But Drizzt has many magic items, and it would be tough to beat drizzt

Now sigurd, you're wrong about that. Believe you me, Gandalf was actually the strongest of istari. Valar just wanted to keep it secret. Olórin (Gandalf) was the most trusted and they put him to "observe"...and he was supposed not to reveal his true nature just yet. Only if and when the time comes. I don't remember the reasons for this that well, been a while since I last read any of his books. Still, I remember reading somewhere that Gandalf was equal in power with Sauron, but Valar didn't want istari to interfere in those matters directly. Istari were supposed to help, not do the job themselves. Gotta read em all again soon, though. But I know all this because I've read numerous Tolkien-books and I own many of them. Btw, Moria's balrog was an average balrog, and balrogs were the same race as Gandalf, Maiar. So it was pretty tough. Not as tough as Gothmog maybe, but still. And as said before, Noldor were MUCH more powerful than any human in the time when Gondolin was destroyed.
Robin Hood
Robin Hood
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............
Hate to drag this out, but the reason he ended up stronger was because he had the elven ring.
The other things you say was true though, demigod and maiar was the same thing, although Sauron was the strongest one after the fall of Melkor, i think Gandalf himself said that somewhere in the book.

Maybe something more about power of Gandalf : After Saruman had been defeated in his Orthank stronghold Gandalf visited him there. Gandalf's magic was powerful enough to take all magic abilities of Saruman that became only normal men (He was killed later by this fool - Grima Wormtongue).
And about Balrog - someone earlier said that Istari's mission was to prepare people to fight vs Sauron, not to use their special abilities because all maiars that are like angels in our culture are very powerful(Silmarilion, first several chapters about fights between them) and could disturb the balance of the world like it was done during I era wars.
I don't thing that Drizzd would be able to defeat Aragorn. As someone said before Drizzd is just drow ranger and Aragorn is the most powerful human in his world with powerful weapon that ,as well as I remember, was able to hurt Sauron. That is more than any Drizzd's scimitar could ever do.
Elminster vs Gandalf - I thing that it couldn't be compared because Elminster has the same purpose in Forgotten Realms as Gandalf in Middlearth - to control, observe and encourage people to fight with forces of chaos.
Because the majority of fantasy worlds could be regarded as Middlearth offsprings then Elminster is just "Gandalf" of Forgotten Realms.
