What quests have you done?
I'd say the one weapon that you really need is The Flail of Ages. You get it from the De'Arnise Stronghold quest, which isn't too hard if you're a low level and is perfect for golem crushing. Also good are the Staff of Rynn+4 (which you can get from the Adventurers Mart if you've got plenty of GP to spare and is the best Mage Staff you'll get for ages) the Cleric's Staff+3 which can be bought from somewhere (possibly the A.M. as well) or found in The Windspear Hills ogre-killing quest if you haven't done that yet, or you can hurt him with the magic darts you get from the final boss of the Umar Hills quest (not wanting to give away who he is if you haven't done it)

here's another tip for killing golems, which isn't really a spoiler but is VERY cheap and should only be used if you feel are willing to face up to the Karma Police for it afterwards...

you can use the Ring of Earth Elemental Control to posess golems. If you are using this method, and it says 'Golem is resistant to magic, just try it again. The whole thing is a glitch in the game, so sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

If you're only able to deal 1 point of damage to an Iron Golem, then I think you're in for some serious trouble later on, as Iron Golems "only" have 20% physical resistance - meaning that if you do 10 damage to a regular foe, the Iron Golem only takes 8 damage.

Try a weapon that has at least a +3 enchantment, as they're immune to all below. I'm sure you'll be able to kill it then.

Oh, and it's only clay golems that need crushing weapons - no need to get out the flail of ages, as you can use your other +3 weapons also.

+3, +4 and +5 weapon usually will do the trick, but usually people do this quest first and therefore having a tough time hurt these big guys.

Elemental damage spells like fireball will hurt them more than your average elemental damage weapon.

And even if you don't have a dwarf to throw at the golem, consider the staff of golem killing that's available from the drow city.

Oh, no, here we go again! :D :D
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

What about the hammer that kills trolls, golems and ettins alike? (Probably not the brain golem, but that's not the point, is it?)

The problem is that you get these items very late in the game, so you won't be able to do the planer sphere until chapter 6, and at that time who cares? You'd probably want to get your soul back rather than travelling the planes.
Oh, and as it just so happens, you need an item from the planer sphere in order to constuct Crom Faeyr.

Golems are not all that tough, they deal out huge damage, yes, but they also have lousy AC and HP (the Iron Golem has 80 HP)
You just need to make sure that you got a weapon of +3 enchantment and one that does blunt damage of +1 enchantment for clay golems.

Best weapon for Iron/Adamantine Golems is Tasheron short bow:
everybody can use it, you take them from distance (when you find those golems there is always a narrow passage where they get stuck) and the great thing is that you don't need arrows (the bows creates his own +3 magica arrows).

cast the wizard strength spell on it. most of its thac0 comes from its freaky high str, so when you set its str to 18/00 instead of 24 or 25 it'll miss almost as freaquently as any other monster. After that just send a hitter in to kill it in relative safety.
