Anyone else have some wise words on the topic?[color]

I agree.

Tennyson: "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

Smokey Robinson: "A taste of honey's worse than none at all."

I say Smokey's got it down.

Bittersweet

Ah, then you, Der-draigen, think the pain is worth it? The way you started this thread off may have led one to think otherwise. ;)

How about this one, from Thomas Mann: ". . . What sort of questionable experience is this, which palsies a man’s judgement, robs him of all claim to it, or even makes him waive that claim, and experience in so doing the abandonment of ecstasy? We do not ask it’s name - for that everyone knows."

I like that quite a bit!

No, no :) I said I agree with Smokey Robinson, "a taste of honey's worse than none at all." It's better to do without love altogether, than to experience it, to know it, and to have it taken from you. Because the taking is just too hard. That's what I believe.

I like that quote about judgment too.

Hmm, words of wisdom...Not at this time. Have another Paulaner :D

*Hands der Moench a Paulaner, cracks open another Killian's, puts Patsy Cline on CD*

Walkin' after midnight

Ah! Patsy Cline! Would it just be too, too cute if I mentioned that the girlfriend I told you about once made me a cassette tape of all these really romantic songs, and Patsy was on the tape (last song, I think).

Here's a question for you: what should I do with the tape? Are you one of those people who would burn something like that, or would you keep it and listen every so often to remember days gone by?

I myself have kept the tape (and everything else that reminds me of her) and put them in a storage bin in the basement. I never look at the stuff, except when I move from one place to another. But maybe I should just "let go" - ?

*der Moench enjoys the Paulaner, the music, his pipe, and the company*

Hmm, I always found Patsy to be the epitome of lovelorn angst...

"Sweeeeeet dreams of youuuuu...
Every niiiiiiiight I go through
IIIIIIIIIIIII should hate you
the who-ole night throu-ugh
Instead of haaaaaving sweet dreams
A-bout youuuu..." :D

Hmmm...It's hard to say. It's hard to let go if you still have feelings for the person. On the other hand, it might be better and healthier for you if you did let go and did something with the stuff. You don't have to throw it away. Depending on what it is, give it to charity, give it away to friends, take something to a secondhand shop and get something you like with the trade -- do something good and positive with it.

Hanging on to "days gone by," as you say, can actually make things worse, I think :(

Burning something can be powerfully symbolic of a break with the past. Not so much out of spite, but as a simple way of saying "This part of my life is over and it is time to move on."

Good night

*der Moench heaves a mighty sigh and taps out his pipe*

Well, Der-draigen, I thank you for this thread, and the conversation. :) Sadly, I have some unfinished work to get done yet tonight, so I must take my leave. I hope to see you around here again soon. :)

*der Moench polishes off his stein of Paulaner, and ambles to the door, deep in thought, muttering: "Valentines Day - tchah!" ;) *

Is Der-draigen’s icy heart beginning to melt? Or does it sublimate? A phase change at any rate... How cute that it should happen in her own ominous anti-valentine thread. :p

@Waverly What's ominous about an anti-Valentine's thread? Seems reasonable to me... :p

Georgi: it has some rather dark undertones... at least it did until Glenda pulled out her faerie dust and started sprinkling it around. I liked it better before. :D

@BS I think you'll do better if you don't state that intention... I mean, DM is obviously doing the same thing, but it's working cos Der-d hasn't figured him out yet ;) :D

@Wavy Take that smooching away someplace else! I suggest the bottom of a very high cliff :D :p
