its not easy being evil...

Post by Aragorn Returns »

May contain mild spoilers

a funny thing happened on the way to jan jansen's home after coming out of the underdark. I was walking along when all the sudden a group of githyanki fools come asking me the silver blade, i was about to begin fighting when a group of palidins or something came after me because of my low rep. They had a mage with them who casts abi dhalzim's horrid wilting. The wilting very quickly took care of all of the githyanki, how convinient, sometimes i guess it pays to have lots of enemies. Ok, so now for the real question...
I go to Jan's House to pick him to be in my party, cuz i really don't like Imoen and i'd rather have a funny little gnome, but then when i'm there he want talk to me, and neither will his uncle or his wife. So am i stuck with no Jan for the rest of the game? Should i just Crt-Q him?

ya, i guess i didn't give very much info, sorry.

Spoilers, Probably

K, when i was playing i never originally put Imoen in my group, or Yoshimo. I had Jan as my main theif. But then, before i went into the underdark i thought it would be fun to take Yoshimo just for kicks and giggles, and for the extra exp. So i kick out Jan, but only after i do his nephew quest or whatever, i'm not sure if the quest was actually over though. That one chick that jan seems to like left with her husband, but i'm not sure if that's the end, i've never spent the time. So after i do that quest i put Yosh in there and leave Jan at his house. Then i go through, rescue Imoen yadda yadda, then i have Imoen die cuz i don't really care if she hangs around then go to pick up Jan. But for some reason he won't talk to me. It says that he appears busy and i can't initiate dialogue, it says the same thing when i try to talk to his family too. I'm an incredibly evil party if that has anything to do with it. My rep. is 1.

If you're not sure whether you ever finished Jan's quest, that may be the reason why. Perhaps someone who's looked into the BG2 variables can tell you what code to change in order to "tell" Jan that you've finished helping him. That's all I can think to suggest.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

well the thing is if the quest isn't done then wouldn't it be bad to ctrl-q him? would that mess up any possible quests?

Check your Journal. If the Jan Hidden quest is in done quests then you've finished it. It actually sounds like you have finished the quest. With a rep of 1 I'm not sure even Neutral Characters will join you. I don't have the manual with me (at work) but I'm pretty sure that Neutral is angry if not actually break. - Curdis !

*ahem* having cracked out my manual, (kind of like a dusty tome)
well, the -7 reaction adjustment just can't help, and neutral char will break
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

To my knowledge there are no other NPCs in SOA that have an Evil alignment of any kind

Yes, but I think he is so uttlerly horrid and vile that none will join him. At least that was my impression from reading the previous posts.

Once again, I salute your despicability. :D

making copious numbers of people die via the chunky death in a very short space of time is *very* satisfiing >;D
