graphics question

Post by pooburgler »

I have my video settings on 2D mainly because my P3 500 with a geforce2 mx 32 mb vid card doesn't seem to be enough to run this game smoothly in 3D. (I'd like to have a little "chat" Korgan-style with the guy who wrote the minimum/recommended sys requirements for this game!) yes I know I'm running a low-end system, but geezuz, even ppl with powerhouse machines are complaining about choppy performance when this game is set to 3D!

Anyway enough ranting, I can't remember what video settings I need to enable/disable to get rid of that non-transparent 'blackness' around things like spell graphics such as magic missile. Anyone know? I got rid of that blackness under 2D before but can't remember how.

You have problems running 3D?
I have a PII 400 and a 32MB GeForce 2 like you, and my game runs perfectly fine...

How much RAM do you have?
Also, have you updated your video drivers anytime lately? Updating them might allow you to play in 3D.

IMO the game looks better in 2D...

ok aside from making you feel like a big man, how does you bragging about your system answer my question again? BTW, bragging about your PC is futile, as everyone upgrades so often, your bragging rights only last like about a MONTH.

Well, I too suddenly have problems with the game. BG2 was running quite fine, but ever since I saved Viconia from vampirism, I have sort of rhythmic lags in the game. Even if I just stand around (no fancy items like cloak of reflection or other graphic- intense stuff), the pendulum of the clock does not run smoothly. The problem in my case seems to be savegame-related because if I load another, earlier savegame, the game runs as before. I tried switching from 3D to 2D and vice versa, fiddled with the 16bit/32bit toggle, no change. Does anybody know how to solve this ? I don´t wanna replay the entire Final Bodhi battle !
My system :
P2 400 MHz
128 MB RAM
32 MB TNT2 Graphics Adapter

Any suggestions ?

I also run a PIII 500, GeForce 3, and 192 MB ram, and had this problem. I read somewhere that you should try clearing your taskbar of unnecessary programs (including firewalls) as they use system resources. I did this and now I have no problems at all.

@ ltldrgn1 :
Yeah, this seems to be a common problem, but I didn´t add anything to my taskbar... also if this was the case, it should be the same for all savegames, not only for this particular one.

@Nagroth, I agree. Your problem may be a corrupted save. I have had a problem with those in the past. Mine problem was saving at one place in the game then when I reloaded, I was somewhere else.

unfortunately, I think replay may be the only way :( . I usually have 2 saves: the autosave and quick save. Whichever one was corrupted, I used the other one. Though I realize that this is no help and after the fact, as they say.. Save early, save often.

I fear you´re right... I´ll have to try and see. Fortunately, I have a savegame just before I enter the graveyard, so I have to replay only the Bodhi battle... I hope ! Thanx anyway !

I have a p4 1.8 ghz and even I get a slowdown when the NPCS are trying to walk somewhere far away. I think its because I have my path thing up to 40,000 (max).

Well, I replayed last night and still have the same problem, though the lagging is not as severe as before. I have also defragged the hard drive, but haven´t had the chance to play again, so I don´t know yet if it helped.
