Monk solo (slight spoiler)

Post by Commoner »

first time ever playing a monk... and this time solo!

i played monk all day... doesnt seem to be a good character so far. even at lower levels than my monk is right now, i used to go through slaver quest easily (SHOCK!)... perhaps i dont quite understand tactical usage of monk, but i died no less than 10 times just killing the beastmaster and his animals.

at first, i just stormed in, thinking i would kill everybody. hmmm i died so fast... so i used draw upon holy might and stormed in... still, i died... so i used draw upon holy might, and killed animals one by one. even at one-on-one, tabita (beastmaster's pet) and grizzly bear slaughtered me... i was simply disgusted ...

so i eventually rescued hendak and got the money and experience (i was slaughtered mercilessly by the band hobgoblins in the copper coronet sewers, so i didnt go there)... i wanted some free experience (such as stealing talos necklace) so i went to docks. i was giving out money for the beggars (im LG monk you see) and encountered the mad cleric (priest of cyric)... he casted hold person and i was held... my AC was so high that he kept hitting me... :( and i died.........first time EVER to die by of a level 4 cleric (or maybe lesser)... i reloaded, and killed him with 1 hp left.. now, DONT laugh... i was killed by Habib Alcmed Khalid, the dude who throws scimitars at ppl..

i think im gonna cry... :( :(
BAH. I wish you all well on this relatively good day.

lol, I'm sorry. I know u asked not to be laughed at but I coudln't help it when you said u were killed by Habib Alcmed Khalid :D I've soloed a monk b4, it's quite hard when starting off with this character as he/she has got bad AC and no MR. You never seem to be able to hit anything, and even when you do you don't do much damage. But hang in there! I had a bit of trouble when starting with this guy as well, I ran around doing every easy quest that I could think of, prefferably ones without fighting  Just give him some time, make use of hide in shadows as much as you possibly can, and once you get a few level ups you'll find it becomes a lot easier. Don't be afraid to use whimpy tactics with this guy ;) Hide in shadows, run in, hit, run like a little girl until you can hide in shadows again, repeat this process until your enemy is dead  This is how I took out a lot of the harder situations with my monk when I first started out.

As I said, hang in there. Your AC will start to drop fairly quickly because your going solo, and you will notice your MR starting to kick in when against mages as well. The monk is great for taking out mages as they keep on casting spells and none of them ever get thru :) Things will get easier!

The monk is designed to be a very powerful top end character , the cost of this is being weaker than average before you attain high levels.

At 20+ the monk dishes more damage than any other melee character , has great magic resistance , AC as well as several extremely handy abilities.

wow thats what im doing! but i ran out of easy quests now... time to go face the harsh realities (not really) and die... :( well it got a lot better today, i fought the mighty MENCAR PEBBLECRUSHER , who whipped me around, but i eventually kick his a$$ (quite literally, do you know how monks are proud of their mighty kicks? :D )... so what happened is funny..quite sad one might say... i dragged him all over the town, getting assistance from guards... good thing monks run as fast as chitikita(dont think i spelled that right) paws cause guards are not bad really. they did 5 damages per hit with pathetic Thac0... they died only soaking up 2 hits of pebblecrusher's mighty hammer. i kept running around until all the guards of waukeen's promenade were dead...wow there were bunch of guards everybody died so fast tho...

as you said, i tried to employ a tactic... hehehe my true fiendish wickedness shines brightly right here :D ... just run over to some corner, stealth, go to mencar, and hit and run and repeat process... wow never took longer time than this, killing a insolent dwarf.... anyhow, whenever i got hit, i ran around the area w/ regeneration ring to fill my hp up...lol quite funny..my monk is sad... w/ draw upon holy might and stunning blow, i kicked his ass again and again, until there were gores flying all around (YES!! i actually blew him up into pieces!!) perhaps this is the most evil part (watch this userunfriendly) i looted from all the dead guards; that was my plan from the beginning! HA! they give you simulacrum and project image and other high level scrolls if youre lucky... i got about 10k gold from these loots and im still goody-goody wishy-washy lawful good monk....lol user's opinion was right after all... we are all evil nasty scoundrels looking for a perfect opportunity!! (you really touched my heart right there... :D ) well i guess im going on a journey to de'arnise keep (after i kept dying by band of paladins you meet in windspear hills) w/ only method of killing trolls sword of flame bought from ribald with 6000 gold... now that i have strenght girdle, all is better (definitely not good) wish me luck.......

Good to hear things are picking up :) As I said, stick with it and after a while your monk will become unstoppable. He'll have such great AC and MR that no-one will be able to hurt him.

commoner, thats cool, so now you have to discover the joys of pitting...

cast prot from evil 10ft radius on your party, or use potion swap trick with scroll, use gate spell, and literally KILL every one, guards and mothers, and little kids, without single rep loss....

never did it before, since i never had any reason, now I do...bwahahahahah!!!

good lot, whack away.

even more fun is using pit fiend to take casre of specific problems..dont have room fro vaygar but want the quest? teell him good bye, summon demon and leave. collect body later. umar hill chickens annoying you? summon fiend, and kill farmers too...

it isn't fair but when you really having trouble with a solo monk you can try equipping keldorn's armour :) that will give you a good AC. But your stats have to be high enough to wear his armour. high strenght and charisma i think...

@User:
You discovered only about three days ago that you're evil, and you're already so SICK?? :p

It would be so simple....
I take Valygar, and travel back to the Sphere.
If I don't need him, I open the door and THEN tell him something like
"it's too risky for you!"
If you're evil, well, just tell him
"I don't need you anymore, you dumb ranger!" ;)

I mean, does your char really think that it's easier to summon a DEMON
and then carry all the way back a ROTTING BODY just to open a door?!?!?

I'm playing my first monk, not soloing...full party. its SO easy. I usually have trouble with slavers, this time with monk I was thru them in like 2 minutes. It was pathetic

wow you surprise me... lol.... that really touched me...

anyway, one question about hell.... if youre lawful good and do evil things (kill sarevok to get 1 str etc) does your alignment turn evil? id love that because im getting bored with goody-talk and the manual is scaring me if i do betray my alignment...

@Commoner

If you had done enough "goody-talk" prior to entering hell, then no you will not turn evil by taking a few evil paths such as killing Sarevok. It won't be enough to change your alignment.

really simple, if you play any kind of fighter, or theif or even cleric, you give into the rage and itch slap savvy silly. you become evil and this is bad I think if youre a paladin, but for everybody else its great, especially for clerics, as you can now turn vampires into allies... carefull of blasting keldorn...

hey, now that is a feat, the "keldorn exploding guild!!! use pc cleric or viccy, and turn paladin in the radiant heart!!!yummy!!!

littiz, my avatar is evil, not merely alignment evil. he does good things cause of the reward, but lets face it, every one who squeled on teh wandering husband in the copper coronet is evil...

so, I like gate spells, and am used to lugging dead bodies in my backpack. do you now how bad red dragon scale smells???
