keldy and harry are annoying, but jan, its due to the fact I am Korean, and hate kimchee, so the turnip jokes tick me off...
Ah, I see. *long pause*
Pardon my ignorance, what's kimchee?
weapon choices?
1. Crossbows as mentioned
2. Staff of Magi/Ram
3. Sling of Everad
Equipment:
1. His stuff, most of it
2. Ring of Gaax
3. Ring of Protection
4. Cloak of Mirroring (or the thief cloak, though I personally don't find that useful)
5. Boots of Speed
6. Robe of Vecna
7. Belt of Inertial Barrier
8. Amulet of Power
Equals lean, mean, backstabbing, spellcasting, hacking machine.
Bar none. He was responsible for Jonny's death on one of my trips to ToB.
well, heck, even haer dalis becomes evil with amulet of power, robe and bounce cloak.
kimchee???? and you live in singapore???
picked and fermented cabbage, made with red pepper, and sorta like nuam noc without the fish...
if you decide not to invest jan with best stuff, recommended,
try this...
robe of neutral arch magi, jan gloves and goggles, regen ring, or ioun stone of regen, dual swords, long, like flametongue and equalizer,
boots of speed, and good amulet or necklace of missiles. treat him like immie, dont give best stuff, but try to increase his saves, he is gnome so he already has very good saves, but if you increase them, you can make him like keldy, rarely misses save.

Eew! Yikes! I hate that too. Call it pickled veg here in sunny Singapore. And anywayssz, kimchee sounds like a bad word in local lingo; I had to be sure

That sounds evil too. Just an observation, Janny isn't that good a candidate for dual wielding - only a frigging * to show for it, unless of course you sk 5 *s to make him look dandy.

im not going to dual weild with jan - i'll probably give him a x-bow like astafas said.

(I probably cannot be contained either)

BTW - what about the Short Bow of Tuigan?
i've just thought about it - it can be great for jan:
using the Cast&Attack tactic, i can fire three arrows and a spell in a single round this way!

I have played with many thiefs, but I have one question: How does the backstabbing works. I have tried it many times, but it always failed. May be this was because they were all pretty low level thiefs.
Help me on this...

you should start a new thread for this question.

he gets use any item, out of the box, once he levels up high enough. spiky traps are seriously cheesy, so he is ready to rock and roll once you get him high enough.
add abu dahzim via sk. he cant learn the spell, but once added to him he can sure cast it, having 2-4 mages cast chain contingency abu dahzim will win most fights.
add innate ability, anti magic ray. innate level 8, the hive mother version. will punch thru any spell protections, and miscast magic for 3 rounds, no save.
if you like dual wield, add if you want the innate ability mazzy has, called haste. this is impr haste, but will tire him out, that will double his attacks. add the draw on holy might with resource prefix "bhaal" this version will not get taken away at spell hold. this gives him good backstab modifiers. or the str spell innate mazzy has.
add poison weapon, with jahiera you can throw poisoned fire seeds, think incindiary cyanide grenades. or just poison energy blades. jan on imp haste draw on holy might and poison, cast mislead and spell immunity, and backstab for baout 20 rounds, each hit doing mondo damage.
"you have no idea of the power of the dark side, littiz.."
seriously, he comes very useful out of the package. I just hate turnip jokes...
if you decide for dual wield, go for mazzy imp haste, to bakc up his own spells , and poison weapon. for single wield, give him greater whirlwinds....with mislead, you will rock seriously hard...
sk him into assassin illusionist, and you have a serious killer....
if you feel like shooting the cripples once they are down, add deathbringer for more fun, or just cut and paste extra backstab modifier affects tab, and give him times 12 back stab or so....
(search previous posts for instructions.)
finally, give him shadowless kick, and watch this wittle gnobe throw a troll across the room!!!
As Alson said, @Rudar. Welcome to the boards. If you want an answer to a question not being discussed, the best way to get attention is to start up a new thread.
And thanks for writing "thief" instead of "theif." I used to assist in handling thieves when I DM'd in DragonRealms, the online game, and I can't begin to tell you how often I'd cringe at "theif" and "rouge."
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Use the search function and you'll get all the info you need. In short:
1) Be hidden in shadows
2) Stand behind ennemy
3) Use thief melee weapon
4) Make successful to hit roll

Life seems short considering how long you will be dead.
Now I know what I was doing wrong! I didn't do the Hide in Shadows. Thanks!
But now....why does my hide in shadows always fail?? May be, because of the low level thieves (theives )??
Does hide in shadows depend on the int. of the opponent?

Quayle is way cooler:
1) Quayle hasn't a Dutch name.
2) Quayle consults with the flowers and confers with the rain. (In all fairness, Jan has Aunt Petunia, which ain't bad either considering her standard followers.)
3) Quayle is so SMRT you can actually feel his amazing brain.

Hide in shadows is a thief skill - you'll need to assign points as you level up in order to get that skill to an acceptable level (there is also equipement that improves your hide in shadows skill).
Now I won't help you here anymore. Make a search, start a new thread or PM me if you gor further questions.
