hi
reached curst and doing the usual rpg fiddling with characters, looking at stats and equipment and found some troubling discrepencies.
1) dakkons to hit bonus somehow seems to have gone from +3 in lower ward to -3 now. how?when? some testing shows hes not hitting as often as nordom or annah. damage bonus with strength is intact . with strengh tattos his to hit increases to 0
2) always thought mortes -4 bonus to hit was just a display bug and now i am getting worried because of above problem . with str spell to hit becomes -2
3) my L13 mage/L10 fighter/ L 8 thief seems to have lost his ability to fight . with thaco of 12 and +2 blade he cant even touch a curst citizen whereas grace with inferior thaco and weapon hits one every 2-3 hits. his to hit and damage ability bonus are displayed correctly at +2 with equipment. reduced from killing stabbing fighter mage to just a mage?
4) side topic - if specialized in mage can you still improve to 5 star proficiencies or only 3 as the trainers seem to insist. and how many upgrades does mortes curse have>
nordom and annah are performing fine . morte and dakkon have had their `upgrades` from conversation . cant figure it out . do i need to replay from earlier save? bug or did i just say or do something wrong in the game . playing lawful good.
thanks.
cant hit anything?
THACO = To Hit AC 0 - in general, the lower it is, the better your chances of hitting something.
Are you sure Dak'kon is actually missing? With the way the fight animations are programmed, there are a lot of "cosmetic" swings taking place, which neither hit nor miss. Nordom uses range weapons, which generally have more attacks per round.
That being said, what is Dak'kon's strength set to now?
IIRC, to be able to put 5 *'s into a weapon proficiency, your fighter must be level 12 or higher.
I don't recall exactly how many upgrades Morte's Litany of Curses ability gets, but there are at least 5. Highlight for spoiler:
Where you can upgrade Litany of Curses:

Where you can upgrade Litany of Curses:
- In the Hive - speak to a harlot. When she tells you that it will cost 2x as much to do Mimirs, tell Morte, "Don't sweat it, Morte. From the looks of her, I'm probably saving you from dying twice."
- In the Hive - tell Craddock the truth about what Jhelai said.
- In the Lower Ward's Pawn Shop, speak to Brokah and Miccah twice. The second time, ask them "Who's he?"
- In the Clerk's Ward's Art and Curio Galleria, use the Gorgon Salve on the statue of the sorcerer Gangroighydon (make sure Morte is nearby).
- In the Brothel of Slating Intellectual Lusts, ask Kimasxi Adder-Tongue if she can teach Morte to be more abusive.

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

thanx for reply
i know about thaco being lower is better having played all the BG series.
its the strength bonus at the bottom of the stats screen that bothers me.
with dakkons strength now set at 21 with tattos, his proper + damage shows but the + hit is 0 when it should be more than 3 . and he definately misses more than annah , eg dakkon vs morte - 50%hits , annah vs morte 90%
mortes missing alot too.
checked an earlier save , when morte first came out of mortuary his +hit was 0 , now its -4 at str 16
and with NO , earlier in lower ward i could hit morte who has AC 0 , 90% of time , now its < 5% , serious!
hmm if i cant solve this , will shelve my plans to increase NO fighter levels and concentrate on mage levels. no point gaining more proficiencys

Sounds like you're experiencing some bugs. Which version of the game do you have?

thank you thank you thank you!
seems to work now
another reason to avoid that ice knife spell , initially thought it was cool till i realised you had to keep throwing the xtra bolts and it wasnt automatic like magic missile.
is it a well known bug? why does it do it?
what a shame i cant play now for next 3 weeks with parents visiting..

It's actually a fairly well-known bug. I don't know whether it was corrected in the patched version of the game. It occurs because the THACO penalty from the ice knife is incorrectly flagged as permanent.
