Elder Scrolls prequels - Where to find?
Elder Scrolls prequels - Where to find?
I have been on the lookup for the previous Elder scrolls games, and i could only find daggerfall at ebay but international bids were not accepted. Do you know some e-stores that sell used games other than eBay? I know the games are too old but i hate starting a game without playing its prequels and would like to play them.
I could buy a new copy but it's impossible to find a game that was released several years ago. Thanks

Really? I"m amazed it's no longer being sold. Try Moby Games, here: http://www.mobygames.com/game/will_trade/gameId,778/ I can't vouch for any sales through the place, never having used them, but still, it's something.

Yes, even Bethesda web-store no longer lists daggerfall, hopefully i will find one.
Thanks fable.

Underdogs has changed addresses, @Buck. Here's the new address: http://www.the-underdogs.org/ However, they aren't offering either of the earlier two games in the series. They link for downloads directly to Bethesda Softworks.

I have also searched the Underdogs to see if the games have been "abandon" but as fable stated they direct you to bethesda so my guess was that the games were still for sale which are not as far as i can tell. But if Buck says are abandonware i should be able to find them somewhere.
BTW: There are a couple of used copies over @Moby Games but is seems that my english detrayed me. What does "near mint"means????

"Mint" means that the condition is so good, it appears as though newly purchased. "Near mint" means very close to that, or in other words, in excellent shape.

demis,
near mint means that the games are almost in perfect shape. this would include the cd, documentation, and probably the original box the game shaped with. This classification, near mint , is more commonly used on a scale with the likes of sports cards or stamp collecting. Here is a little elaboration:
mint - good as new
near mint - almost good as new
excellent - doesn't quite look brand new but has few signs of use
very good - just not excellent
good - definite signs of wear and use, manual may be complete although a few pages may be unbound, perhaps the packaging got spilled on
fair - pages from the manual may be missing, original packaging damaged badly, you are at your own risk with the media as it may be worn or damaged
poor - why sell it????
hope this helps.
fable beat me to it.

Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
Strange ... i had a feeling that it meant something bad
The synonyms in Word couldn't clarify that but you did guys thanks.
Update: It seems that the games are not abandonware yet or have been but because of the release of Morrowind they might have given second thoughts, as if they are planning for a collection of all the elder scrolls games. I contact (via email) Bethesda and ask them about it and if it's possible to get them. I'll let you know what's the case about this matter soon.

Glad to see that. Although I wouldn't be surprised, if Morrowind takes off, to see Bethesda Softworks reissue the earlier two games as a low-priced twofer. Mind, there's no comparison, IMO, between the sheer gameplay of the third, and that of its predecessors.

Too bad you didn't post this a month ago before I threw my copy of Daggerfall away. I too wanted to play the prequels before I played Morrowind...that lasted all of about an hour. First of all, Daggerfall is a DOS based game that can only run on Win98 or less. Second, even on a fast machine it runs really slow. Anyways, after playing for about a few hours, I got really bored. One of the problems with Daggerfall was its gigantic world...which means tons of walking. If you came into a big city and wanted to head to the fighter's guild, it would literally take you 5 minutes of pressing the arrow key just to walk the other side of the city (when you get a horse, you can go faster).
Well, to make you feel better, Morrowind isn't actually a sequel to Daggerfall, just another game that happens to take place in the same world. Bethesda spoke about this. Since Daggerfall is 8 years old, they didn't want the two games to be tied together too much. Trust me, you don't want to play Daggerfall. It was fun when it came out, but in this day, it's an incredibly bad game (poor graphics, poor sound, bad gui, etc).

@acuoio, i'm afraid this is not the case for me, i like playing old games and every once in a while i get back to them especially if some of the them are considered legends by now . My system is always configured to support old games, and i would like to get a taste of the previous Elder Scrolls games though i have to confess that if it wasn't for morrowind i should probably never heard of them.
I'm a little confused however, it seems there are four elder scrolls games, arena and daggerfall are considered the prequels of Morrowind and the other two on the same line, am i right? The morrowind box states that (Europian version?)
And as always Morrowind will be in eupore in 2 weeks from now and it is published by Ubi Soft??

Hmm It runs fine on WindowsME for me, no slowing no problems. Patching the game is a must, but I've had no problems.Originally posted by acuoio

WinME is basically a heavily modified win98 is why, i remember playing daggerfall in it just fine and most anything that says compatible with win98 will have the same with winme, though as for win xp or beyond is what he meant about past 98 which you CAN get to work though you have to download some patches and a sound thingy that i saw links to on a forum that got so big the moderators had to delete it, though i heard the links were back on the morrowind main forums if anybodys interested just go search for daggerfall there you ought to come up with 'em..

Only two RPGs in the series. Bethesda Softworks tries to market other non-RPG titles as being part of the Elder Scrolls, but that's not how gamers think.Originally posted by Demis

I, too, like the old DOS games. I'm still surprised nobody has tried to create a bigger, better Darklands--it remains innovative to this day in some respects. And from what I've heard, Master of Orion III has just lost most of its new features, as the publishers forced the developers to cut back. MOO II, for all its age, might have all the features of MOO III when the latter shows up this fall.

Thanks for the updated link, Fable. I know HOTU had Daggerfall up for download less than a year ago, but I suppose it's possible Bethesda contacted them and asked them to take it down if they are considering re-releasing it in a collection.Originally posted by fable

Wow, Darklands , it's not long ago that i was playing this and with the 2 Darksuns games . Maybe it's time to go back to an old game, now that Buck also brought back memories of the Ultima VII masterpiece. Check the news on Gamebanshee
