But it shows that Americans know so little aboot Canada that they'll believe ANYTHING.
They may be reacting in part to accurate news stories of the forced placement (read: government abduction) of children of Canadian indigenous peoples in mainstream culture homes, hundreds of miles away, thirty and forty years ago. I seem to also recall forced sterilization was used in Canadian mental institutions at approximately the same time. This is the sort of thing that raises the hackles of Americans who normally hold a view of Canadians as a benign, friendly people (well, if they aren't Bloc Quebecois, anyway).
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

But fable, our prime minister then was a wacko. :D He pulled out funding for the Canadian Space Program (if he hadn't, we would be where the Americans are with the Space program). He also believed in ghosts and listened to his dog for advice.  For those who think I'm kidding, I'm not.

Yes...very true unfortunately...one of the many dark stains of Canadian history...... :( In the province of Alberta, the practice of sterilizing those in institutions was not officially rescinded until the early 70s. Even more appalling is that those placed in the institutions usually came from "minority" groups........

So...IMHO...no Canadian has any right to make self-rightious claims about wrongs.....

On a lighter note.......it is difficult not to be amused by those visitors who still believe that the Queen resides in our Parliament buildings..... ;)

Not to mention communicating with his dead mother via seances and a crystal ball...... :D

Where would Canadian history be without the contributions of the Right Honourable Mckenzie King ? :p

What?!!! You mean she doesn't?!!! :D :p :D
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

If you went to Quebec, Kenadoo, and saw setup of pruppets on strings that moved constantly, and there was a guy petting a dog
back and forth, and someone said, "Woah! That guy's the coolest. I hope the dog bites him." Then you said, "You just contradicted yourself. Why is he cool if you want him to be bitten?" and he said "He's cool because he's so calm around a dangerous animal" and you just couldn't understand what he meant, would you put hot fudge, colorful sprinkels, or  on your ice cream you ate the following night?
