How to slash?

Ok, I'm lame. But please help me out!

How do you slash(or chop) with longsword? People said that click the mouse while strafing and you can slash. However, no matter how I move, charge up, backward, strafe, all I got is thrust. And that's the case with longsword. With claymore, it's all chopping. Someone please tell me what to do! Thanks in advance

Make sure you check "NO" where the game asks you "Always perfom best attack ?" (or something similar) in the option box.
