In terms of personality and as a character I prefer Viconia, but Anomen's melee skills and his Turn Undead's ability to chunk enemies makes him a useful character.
On the other hand, give Viconia the Cloak of Balduran and the Amulet of 10% magic resistance and she gets 100% magic resistance, so they're both extremely useful.
However, as Aqua-chan so rightly points out in her link to her page, Anomen is annoying if you are a male character, and doubly so if you are a male IRL. Thankfully he shuts up after passing his test, otherwise I would have been without a cleric other than Aerie for my archer.
I did make a female paladin to try out the romance once to see what sort of deal female players get with romances, but he was so irritating I made her kill him and then wiped the game. I reached the conclusion that ladies really got ripped off in terms of romances in BG2.
Once I've done the Tashia romance I'll see what the makers of Kelsey have come up with. So far the character seems pretty cool, but my protagonist is a male so I can't tell about the romance.
@Aqua-Chan-Try having Anomen cast Sanctuary and then have him Turn Undead in that room-he doesn't get hit once and not one vampire gets out alive.
