Beat this man! Anyone?
Hrm interesting. Do devas/planetars see through invis even with non-detection (e.g. the cloak) in place?
If so then I guess Keldy can win if he can actually land the PfM on the mage (though its not at all clear he can manage that against a mage with SotM and timestop etc).
And yes any "fair" set of dueling rules would likely outlaw PfM among other things (quite possibly including SotM) but we're just thinking about things for fun here.

Actually thats brings up a good question. Kopy did you check if the mage can do stuff like summon Planetar under PfM. I mean if Keldy can use his HLAs, what about the mage? I doubt it since his get memmed as spells while the paladins are implemented as specials, but then there are plenty of "undocumented features" in BG2 so I wouldn't bet my life on it.
If PfM stops all mage HLAs then the last thing he wants to do is summon a planetar and give the pally more time to PfM him. The planetar would be routed by keldy while deva chased after the mage.
Hrm. Once again we run into a running man situation though, well ... maybe. How does the deva seeing invis work? Does he reveal invis to the group or is he just able to attack the invis guy. If its the latter, then once again we just have the mage running away until the deva despawns and the PfM is gone. I don't remember deva's having any ranged attacks.

Ok, I tested this...I gave Imoen the SotM and the cloak of non detection (CoND ) and turned her into an enemy via SK so she had a red circle. AI was off so she just sits there invisible and I couldn't see her...then I summoned a deva (Littiz, if you're reading this you may want to turn away now ) who promptly attacked her...but she stayed invisible to my pc. Oh and I made sure I SK'd the CoND to her back location...unless I'm mistaken this is where it should be in order to work. She didn't last long...
But devas seem to be quite slow so any mage could probably out run one...
"ImmieSection"!!?!
Stop at once those evil tests!!!
It seems that all of you know my little weakness...

A mage with Staff of Magi will get first move, no Paladin can cast Protection from Magic on someone they can't see. While he's casting Deva, I'd still cast Imprisonment, or Timestop and create all sorts of nasties.
Imprison is a winning way in a fight, if it were one on one soloers the person who's imprisoned would just see the hand turning to dust before he knew what happened. Saying "a person comes along and casts freedom" is as bad as saying "a person comes along and casts resurection".
Remember a well understood and managed mage can cast more than 8 spells in one round, via contingencies and sequencers, chain Contingency has no casting time either. (Just prepare them in a Timestop)
This is a copy of my fifth time final save of bg2ToB. I am suprised of how good my parti is!!! I dont think Any mage can kil my keldorn. Not any kind of mage! Tell me if im wrong!
Remember that this party is NOT a cheated party and for those that dont know bg2 so good (Keldorn is a player that is computer generated)

I laughed so hard I almost cried. Then I got a little bit sadder when I saw that everyone here already mentioned three dozens ways each. I don't think Any well-played and well-equiped mage would loose that fight. To put it short:
1. You can't hit what you can't see, so the re-equipped Staff of the Magi can't fail.
2. You can't hit when you can't move, so Time-Stop solves. As always.
3. You can't hit when you're stuck ten thousand feets below the earth, so Imprisonment solves. As well.
4. 100% mr is easly lowered to 10% by a well-placed triggered pierce shield. When you can't see him. When time's stuck. When you're stuck ten thousand feets below the earth. Oh well.
5. Don't ever get me started on mage-hybrids as a kensai/mage wouldn't break a sweat and time stop+ assassination would kill you ten times over. ^^
But then again, discussing duells in BG is like discussing what color's the strongest. To quote the best thing ever said about this subject: "Rift Device+Ring of the Ram, anyone?"
Bah! Easy kill. I doubt anyone could take on my level 40 Fighter. Trust me, he has the most powerful items in the game. Even though items aren't all that... but besides the items... he is very powerful without them.
You can't handle Time Stop.
You can't handle Imprisonment.
You can't handle Staff of the Magi.
You can't handle Assassination.
You can't handle Traps.
Items won't help you a bit. No pure fighter with ANY equipment can handle a mage. As with the paladin, a kensai/mage wouldn't break a sweat. You'd be dead before the first time stop ended.

hmm wouldn't remove magic/spell strike/ khelbens warding whip dispell the protection from magic?
even if that dossn't work the mage can do like one hundred things to kill him
with staff of the magi he could have turned himself invisible and cast improved aclarety and timestop. summoned lots of creatures lowered his resistance, dispelled his precsious protection from magic(if it works) with removemagic... dragons breath, comet, adhw he would have been pawned like a ant... chanses that keldorn would win are equal to that noober would bechome the lord of murder
