Proficiencies and Damage

Post by Maleous »

I haven't played D&D games much, more of a diablo fan.

Firstly does anyone have any idead how many proficiencies each class gets by the time they max?

Secondly, and more elaboratly, How on eearth does the damage calculations work, I couldn't find anything on it in the manual. I mena Carsomyr does 1d 12 +5 im guessing that means you roll one 12 sided die, add five, and thats the damage you do. But what on earth does 3d6 +1d6 per level mean, does it mean you roll (3 + char lvl)six sided dies and add the dice values or is it average or does it take the higest?. I cant remember what spell it was but something does 10d6 damgage, again what does this mean???

Thirdly, ive heard a lot of people say carsomyr rocks on the Game banshee strategy section, my question is why?. A monk does 1d20 +3, surely thats more than 1d12+5, and a monk attacks 4 times per round compared to 1.

btw i understand the whole THAC0/ AC deal so that doesnt need explaining

It depends, if you have ToB you can get to level 40, but that's hard with a full party. (I still recomand a 6m,ember party)
And fighter get more the mages for example.

1d12 means 1 roll on a 12sided dice,
2d4 for example means 2rolls on a 4sided dice.
10d6 means 10rolls on a 6sided dice
3d6+1d6 means 3rolls on a 6sided dice + 1 on a 6sided dice (i think this is another type of damge for the spell you mean)

You can count the damage average to take the sum of the lowest and higest possible throw, and devide that by 2.

For example a bastardsword+1 (2d4+1)
Lowest: 3
Highest:9
Sum: 12
Avarge:6

But you do extra damage when you have a higher strenght.

That's true, but Carsomyr dispells magic, you get extra attacks when you become a higher level and more proficent in the weapon, and you have the strenght bonus for more damage.

Check out weapon proficiencies, am I missing something. Sabre has made a list of proficiency points. I hope this info, combined with Stilgar's, answers your questions.

Thanks for the info Everyone, I love BG2 but it oculd be so much better if it used a simple stats screen for the character like the diablo series.
