continuing to BG:II

Post by hwttdz »

I finished Baldur's Gate one planning on going on through BG:II SoA but much to my despair I cannot find how one is supposed to do this. I installed BG:II first that's one thing I can think of that might be giving me trouble.

To import PC's into BG2, do the following:

From a character file
  1. Start BG1 and load a game containing the character you wish to import into BG2.
  2. Go to the record screen of the aforementioned character and click on Export. Type a name and click done, then quit the game.
  3. Using Windows Explorer, go to the Characters directory located in your main Baldur's Gate directory.
  4. Right-click on the character file you just created (it has a .CHR extension) and select Copy.
  5. Now go to the characters directory located in your BG2 SoA directory. Right-click on this directory and select Paste. You should now see your character file appear in this directory.
  6. Start BG2. When creating a new PC, just click on the Import button and select Character File, then select your character from the list.
From a savegame
  1. Using Windows Explorer, go to the Save directory located in your main Baldur's Gate directory.
  2. Right-click on the savegame directory you wish to import from and select Copy.
  3. Now go to the save directory located in your BG2 - SoA directory. Right-click on this directory and select Paste. You should now see your savegame appear in this directory.
  4. Start BG2. When creating a new PC, just click on the Import button and select Saved Game, then select your character from the list.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

No the transition from SoA to ToB is flawless. The story continues there is a little movie sequence and you're in ToB.

When I imported my character it didn't like it and I had to try several times so as not to have to re-roll for stats. I think the problem was not having the portrait in the BG2 portrait file

It would be a good idea to copy both the portrait files and the sound files for your character to Shadows of Amn before beginning.
