Installation problems

Post by Andy Strawn »

This always happens: whenever I try to install the game, the setup program tells me my files don't match and that I should contact an administrator!?! I press the "ignore" button - otherwise the game wouldn't install - right? During gameplay I get all sorts of errors: blue screen, exits without any sort of message, assertion errors. Oh yeah, lots of these.

Can somebody tell me why my game is corrupted all the time? By the way I do have the patch and no mods. I only use CTRL-Y when something just pops up out of thin air - which annoys me very much because it IS annoying - like in the very beginning, after the encounter with the djinni, there are goblins in the next hallway but sometimes they aren't, in which case they pop up out of nowhere when you exit the room with the sewer golem. Could this rather justified use of CTRL-Ying be messing up my files??

As much as I played computer games, BG is the worst when it comes to reliability. This game is simply too complicated! What's all this "console" and "global variables" and "fuctions" for? I mean look at Starcraft, you could build a bunker on top of your command center, but hey, at least you don't get kicked out of the game.

Ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies

"I'm invinceable"
"your a loony"

I'd rather be rich than stupid.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

Have you tried copying the discs manually and then edit the search way in the Baldur.ini-file?

Are you using Windows 2000 or XP? If so, download the latest compatability updates from Microsoft.

Try turning of the DMA on your CDRom drive and reinstalling :) The installation will be slower, but you should not have a problem with files 'not matching' or assertion errors...
