PC creation advice

Post by Chips_40285 »

i have owned bgII for a little bit of time now, and have been unhappy with every character that i have created. i think my party will consist of keldorn, minsc/korgan, imoen/yoshimo and aerie (for the romance). all i have to do now is create a pc. i want one that can fight and cast spells
fighter/mage-seems obvious but how powerful of spells and how good of THAC0 do they realy have (too weak?)
kensi at 9 to mage- would you even utilive the kensi, or would this just be like a straight mage? what about dualing at say 12,13, or 14?
blade- not to many pc bards. for a good reason?
stalker- i know it doesnt cast spells but it seems kind of cool. is it really that good? i have not found any good studded leather besides on valgyr,so is he better than a pc?

any advice in creating the character would be welcome. thanks

Well for my two cents a human fighter/mage dualed at 11 or 13 is the strongest and most versitile. Though I would strongly suggest saving every scroll you find and buying all the best spells then take a sebatical in you rkeep. Boot everyone out of your party and drink a potion of genius ( purple ) the learn all you spells. You should get to lvl 11 the next lvl is alot more exp read: 250K+ Your total exp should be around 800K if you dual @ 11. Fighter/thief is also a very nice chioce but you do not enjoy the benifit of exp form scrolls.

However have you tried a fighter highly specialized in something. 2 handed sword + Long bow, or Long sword and Katana. These guys dish out the dirt at higher lvls with thac0 of 3 or 4 and 4+ attacks per round.

It's been a while since I posted at GameBanshee.

How about a multi-class half-elven cleric/ranger?

For fighting, your THACO constantly progresses, and you can dual-wield some powerful weapons (FoA and CF). You can enhance your fighting ability with spells like Armor of Faith, Righteous Magic and Ironskins.

For spellcasting, you have access to all cleric and druid spells, including great spells like Insect Plague.

Regarding your party composition, you may run into problems with having Korgan and Aerie in the same party.

crassus, a multi class cleric/ranger would be able to use full plate right? it seems to me that the low number of multiclass pcs (at least of people that post in this forum) would indicate that they are weaker than dual class charcters. is this true?

Yes, multi-class cleric/rangers can wear full plate, although when doing so, they can't use their stealth ability.

I think you'll find a wide range of opinions on dual-class characters versus multi-class characters. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I agree that, judging from the various posts in this forum, more people seem to prefer dual-class than multi-class. My preference happens to be for multi-class.

I think you'd like a stalker. They are at least the equal of fighters at high levels (4x backstab and smite is the most awesome looking thing). AC shouldn't be a worry as you can wear shadow dragon scale early on and white dragon scale in TOB. They can also cast a limited number of spells including haste, dispel magic and some druid ones.

Backing up Rowan...
I never expected to like this kit. When I started playing a stalker I just figured I'd stop after a while and create another char. But became real fond of him real quick. Right now I'd have to say it's one of my favorite kits.

the kensai kit is amazing...I took a kensai up to level 40 for my current sorc kensai,I finshed the game as sorc...and he hits with thaco of -22!!!OMG!!! I can hit juggy golems with plain swords!!! but you need major plus weps to damage....

I hit poison weapon, hit greater whirlwind and leave monsters behind with green froth on lips...

sorry, didnt finish thought about sorc....

much beer...

anyway, the sorc clss requires homework. every sorc player in the game has at home a list, agonized and as many as 20 versions, of the spell selection list. the ones posted by others never seem to fit exactly what you need, so you revise.

sorc class is also the msot fun to play. magic is just so cool....

yes, I am eagerly waiting morrowind, I loved and spent so many hours with spell creator in dagger fall
